The Big Hurt definitely lived up to its name. For Team Maple Syrup, it was lungs feeling like they were going to explode, a heart beating its way out of your chest, or legs that simply had nothing left.

And for @petebauman403 a few bonus blisters on the hands from kayaking. 😂

Overall, it was an amazing experience. Tough, painful, and absolutely worth it. I thought there was a free beer at the finish, turns out I just misread that part. 😢 Oh well, it was the best-paid-for beer ever! 🍺😂

I had a blast covering the Little Hurt today. It’s quickly becoming one of my favorite events to cover for a few reasons.

First, seeing all those kids get after it. The determination, the competitiveness, the hard work they push through (especially on that last leg of the trail run) They all should be really proud of themselves today. I know I was.

Next - seeing engaged parents supporting, encouraging, and motivating their littles in the best way possible. Gives me hope. In a world where parents brawl at little league games, it’s a breath of fresh air seeing adults actually adult and be there for their kids in such a positive way.

And C - what a beautiful campus. This area has so much beauty, and the campus at Peninsula College is no exception.

And thank you to all involved for allowing me to run around and capture all the fun. I’ll be creating a private album that the race director will share with all of you. I tried to capture a photo or video of each child who participated. I sure hope I succeeded.

Well done Port Angeles, and thank you ✌️💜😎

We are here in Port Angeles, WA📍for the @bighurtpa 2026!

This is a rad race to be a part of. With four legs, either in teams, or #ironman division. Mountain biking, kayaking, road biking, and running! Participants get to experience the heart of this beautiful place, and we do too.

What does that mean for us? We start at the Mt bike portion up on the hill, and as soon as everyone is cleared, we move down to race central where the other legs all leave from. (Also, where the mt bikers end their leg.) Once we’re down at race central, we will stay there until the race is over.

This event is packed with great energy always! We are right in the middle of it, set up for any injuries or emergencies. Beer garden adjacent for finishing racers and spectators, announcers, cowbells, waterfront views, and victory rings of the Big Hurt Bell.

Catch more updates as the day progresses, and follow —> @bighurtpa for more on the sports action!

Happy sunny Saturday!👋
