Hi fellow animals,

It’s Barbara here, looking back on our summer as we move into the fall. This year, we reprised our Growing Season programming on the Sunshine Coast, with a sister series in Vancouver:

We offered 17 events between June and August, including our DREAM TECH weekend at Mission Point House, our two week residency at KIOSK/Persephone Brewing, a weekend stint at the Hackett Park Artisan Market and a workshop series at both the Sechelt Public Library and the Marpole Neighbourhood House.

We shared community creation, performances, open studios, walks, flower-forward desserts, and a site-specific immersive audio piece that encouraged you to become a mushroom. We made a tapestry, a community dreamboard, a set of indigo dream fabrics, sleep masks, ground sheets, dyed sheepskins, and several sweet little books - digital and handmade. We grew our own garden and lent a hand with others.

We presented incredible artists: Rita and Zoe Kompst, Jessica Silvey, Toni-Leah C. Yake, Kerri Flannigan, Noor Ghazal, anata laylay, Isabelle Kirouac and Willoughby Arèvalo, Julia Ülehla, Stevan Oostenbrug, Malcolm Jack, Erin Dutton, Stefan Smulovitz, Emilie Leclerc, Cease Wyss, and Jaz Whitford.

We grew and gathered dye plants, sorted dried iris, bundle-dyed, indigo-dipped, wove, sewed, stitched. Less romantically, I personally hemmed so many pieces of fabric on a cranky sewing machine that I feel full-body revulsion when I even think about hemming. Whoops!

(Caption continued on next slide.)
IMAGE DESCRIPTION:
Folks chatting after the DREAM TECH dinner and gathering before the Twilight Mushroom Walk with Art & Fungi.

More happily: we shared conversation and stories with many people, old friends and new meetings. Some came on purpose to join us and a high percentage thought they were on their way for a drink and found themselves making eco-art or experiencing the Mycocosm show, where they were encouraged to lie down on the forest floor and dream themselves as mushrooms. With good humour, we answered questions like, “So, will you be giving us magic mushrooms?” (No, but the art is pretty dreamy :):) )

We moved chairs into place, fluffed pillows and sheepskins, we u

Friends! Here are all the dates for the IW Acoustic Obscura Tour 2026 - swipe through for cities. These are going to be really special shows. I’ll be playing solo acoustic, revisiting my music through the years, some new songs off my forthcoming EP ‘demon’s way’, maybe some covers, maybe some stories. Think of it like the ‘greatest hits you’ve never heard’ tour!!! Ticket links in bio. Some truly amazing artists will be opening these shows, so come out if you are around. There’s nothing we need more in the world of music right now than the experience of hearing and seeing it live…if you feel so inclined It would mean so much if you could help spread the news far and wide, since I don’t have publicist and I’m running my own label at a time where corporate rock still sucks.

Thank YOU!

Pleased to announce the IW “Acoustic Obscura Tour”2026!!!! This has been a long time coming…I am going on the road in October as a solo psychedelic troubadour.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Dubbed as the “Acoustic Obscura Tour,” Imaad Wasif (lowercase, alaska! & yeah yeah yeahs) announces a 2026 tour of the West Coast, doing what he does best - playing intimate venues and performing stripped down solo acoustic versions of his songs. He’ll explore music from his whole catalog, all the solo albums and beyond, including a new EP ‘Demon’s Way.’

“I’m trying to reconnect to the embryonic pure state, outside of all the insanity of the world right now. This is the most vulnerable thing I can do in front of an audience. I’m leaning farther into the traditions of dark folk.”

Hello dreamers,

Barbara here, writing in gratitude for everyone who made our weekend of DREAM TECH so beautiful and moving.

Thank you to the artists and teachers who shared their knowledge, opening worlds of thoughtful practice and connection to the land: Isabelle Kirouac and Willoughby Arévalo, Rita and Zoe Kompst and Jessica Silvey. I loved watching the public leave your workshops bright eyed, draped in mushroom-dyed yarn, carrying gorgeous cedar baskets. I love that a ‘temperamental Tapinella’ dye mushroom appeared for us on a twilight mushroom walk, so far outside of the usual mushroom season. 🍄

Thank you to Toni-Leah C. Yake, Julia Úlehla, Malcolm Jack, and the members of the public who shared their dreams during the Saturday evening performance. It was wonderful to feel so connected, to watch the wind play alongside the music and to hear how many dreams we have in common. Erin Dutton amazed all of us with her desserts, which were incredibly artful, detailed, generous and delicious. It was so good to be led by Toni-Leah C. Yake for our final, dream sigil workshop on Sunday. Her stories and guidance opened doors for many of us and certainly planted seeds for the next series of DREAM TECH events.

Our weekend was made possible by the many hands who pitched in as organizers, tent wranglers, dish washers, tea makers, table setters, drivers...the list goes on and on. I am so grateful for our beautifully caring, ingenious and hardworking TOA team: anata, Noor, Stevan and Brenda. A big thanks as well to Ahmed, who created our beautiful posters. In particular, I am thankful for the help of our families and partners, who shared all of the work so generously and really exemplified the power of relationships, how they make every good thing possible. Thank you Joy, Amal, Wael, Ali, and James for all of your help. We really couldn’t have done it without you.

We’re taking a couple of days off to dream and recover and then we’ll be back with a summer full of programming on the Sunshine Coast and in Vancouver. See you soon!

Barbara

What does a rip up to qathet look like from Vancouver you ask? Well pretty dang sweet if you’re asking me!
Hopped off the ferry in Langdale and stocked up on some craft brews @persephonebrewing then stopped for some roadside adventures at Francis Point, then food @the_grasshopper_pub before hitting the ferry to Powell River in Egmont.

Then it’s the @thealleypoweredbypersephone for some live music in Powell River and be fully entertained by the range of touring artists they have coming through.

Epic days and adventure are all around us! #sunshinecoastbc for the win!

Big thanks to the extended crew @sundaycider for making space for live music on the grass and @bigmalcolmjack for making it all sound smooth. Yeah, I ramble on too much when I’m solo, I know. But my father and grandfather were preachers, so I come by it honestly. Until the next time of stories and songs #tophertrickmusic
