Saturday Spotlight with Big Red Books

Why did you start your business?
When we saw that Richie was leaving, we knew immediately that we couldn't let the store close. As a family that loves books, we believe having a local independent bookstore is so important. We wanted to create a space to discover something new, find an old favorite, and feel connected to the community around you.
What does your business offer?
In addition to selling books, we also have a small selection of carefully curated toys, games, and apparel. We are also getting ready to start serving coffee and pastries. We just finished a renovation of the outdoor space and will begin hosting community events.
What makes your business special/different?
We are three sisters with completely different backgrounds, each bringing different things to the table. Books are one of the things that keep us connected, and we hope to bring that love of reading and foster connections within the community.
Who is your target customer?
Everyone! We hope people of all ages find a love for books and reading.
What made you choose Nyack as the location for your business?
We are all living in and raising families in Nyack, and wanted to be a part of and support our home community.
Where do you see your business in the future?
Beyond the books, we want Big Red to continue as a space for people to connect. From author readings and book clubs to story times, workshops, live music, and community events, our goal is to bring people together and support the writers, artists, families, schools, and organizations that make Nyack special.

Do you have any events or promotions coming up?
We have a children's book launch with author and illustrator @samwedelich coming up on 10/18. A few more in the works…

Busy week! Thank you to @thelewisjcc and @mandelljcc_ct for welcoming me so warmly and to the amazing independent bookstores @bigredbooks in Nyack, NY and @riverbendbookshop in West Hartford, CT for all the support. And big shout out to the lovely and talented author @melaniefaranello who put more @postit notes on a book than I have ever seen and led such a thoughtful discussion about SUCH GOOD PEOPLE.

Wander Wednesday: Nyack edition 🍫📚 A little river town, four great stops, and nowhere to be.

🍫 Tree of Chocolate: sea salt caramels, truffles, and so much more. Our favorites were the chocolate-covered cashews. @treeofchocolate

🥐 Runcible Spoon Bakery & Cafe: sugar cookies in flower shapes, plus Rugelach. We grabbed tuna salad sandwiches on gluten free bread. @runciblespoonbakery

📚 Big Red Books: that red door is hard to walk past and so is their selection of books. Of course I just had to buy a new picture book for the grandkids. @bigredbooks

🎶 The Angel Nyack: a gorgeous old brick church turned arts venue. Check out their event calendar. @angel_nyack

If you have more time take a walk on the @governormariocuomobridge

The best part of retirement is a Wednesday with nowhere to be and a little town that’s happy to have you. 🌻

Save this for your own Nyack day, and tell us where we should wander next 👇

@bigredbooks Red Books just opened its doors in Nyack.

A whole storefront of new spines, string lights, and that unmistakable red hat.

Congratulations to the entire Big Red Books team. Opening a physical bookstore takes nerve, and a town gets better the day one opens.

If you’re anywhere near Nyack: walk in, say hello, leave with a stack.

We’re proud to count Big Red Books as an Emersoft client. Booksellers running on Shopify, or thinking about it: the link to our app is in bio
