A wild Squigbomb appears! It’s super effective! 💥

One of my slightly older pieces — a fantastic little miniature. And yes, I’ll admit it: it’s neither a Pokémon nor a Squig… but it is a bomb! More precisely, it’s The Deadwake Mine from @proxy_realms , part of the #blacksonsofloyola series.

Still, the model definitely has some strong Squig vibes, and with the skull decal it even looks a bit like Koffing…

Hope this reel brings a bit of chaos and fun to your Sunday!

“The Maggot Keeper” an amazing (and quite large!) sculpt made by the very talented @bigredmoth which i thoroughly enjoyed painting using Acrylics, Enamels, Oil paints, Varnishes, UV Resin and Pva Glues:

Giving him the full Pictor Nox treatment of Pva Flesh peel effects, Multi layered skin effects with Oil pencil vein work, Ethanol based varnishes for acrylic decimating effects and a chance to try a new idea for thicker membranes; as seen on the maggots.

Being my first post in a while, and the first of this year, I hope to invoke “gentle” discomfort and “mild” shock with these handcrafted textures and effects. And in the upcoming picture-post i’ll dive a little deeper into the processes and concepts of old, and new techniques for those that haven’t followed me from the days of old 😈

Some basics:

Prior to priming I added some Paper flesh technique across areas such as the large arm, and legs for added texture and to seal gaps. Slight crackle paints on the areas I predetermined would be the decaying open sores as well as some of the to-be metallic areas.

Primed in Off white as always.

Paints I used are a variety of thinned Acrylic washes for tones and mottling by applying them with a dabbing motion using a round brush, ethanol X-22 varnish by Tamiya to break and mottle the washes (especially across the Octopus tentacles) and enamels from Villainy Inks to unify them and add the vitreous layers across the washes and varnishes, as well as effects for some subtle verdigris.

Tufts of hair as always by plucking bits of enamels-soaked old qtips and bit by bit attach them with varnish for that extra gross vibe 🤢👌

Then various Oil paint dry-brushing across the body’s raised areas, as well as the Maggots: but more on that in the next post!

Finally some slime effects using Uhu glue and Dirty Down Snot by @goblinshut for the thicker more gooey parts.

💀 Deadwake Mine

Scourge of the Straits · Guardian of the Drowned Plague · Corpus Profane

“No ship crosses without leaving behind a soul.”

In the narrow, cursed waters of the Strait of Gibraltar, where ancient navies once clashed and saints were cast into the sea for failing their gods, something now stirs beneath the tide.

The Deadwake Mine is no mere explosive—it is a living reliquary of pestilence, a bloated guardian chained by the Corpus Profane to the ocean floor. Once a failed bio-weapon dredged from the hold of a sunken plague-fleet, it was resurrected and blessed with rot by the Worm Host.

Its iron-plated body is fused with necrotic flesh and punctured by rusted exhausts that vent diseased fog. Chains drag from its limbs like kelp strands, and when it rises, it brings with it a tide of black bile and bone.

It waits.

Ships passing the strait report bubbling waters, then silence. Survivors speak of a terrible screeching howl beneath the hull before entire vessels are swallowed by plaguefire and brine.

The Deadwake Mine does not patrol.
It lurks.
It guards.
And when the winds shift foul over Gibraltar, the faithful know: another has trespassed where only the Corpus may cross.

The second Trilobite model from @bigredmoth designed and 3d printed by him in a translucent pink resin (last photo). I gave this one a similar paint job to the first one and they make a nice pair!
Again - love all the sharp spines and Giger-esque prehistoric forms.

Just wanted to share pics of two big Cicada nymph models made by @bigredmoth !

I sent him a range of photos of some exuvia specimens from my collection and he digitally sculpted a great looking nymph, then printed them up in clear resin. The brown one I got as a finished model and the crusty one was a blank (last photo) which I painted up myself. Check out his work at @bigredmoth -and I have some other pieces which I've posted about (and will post other new ones soon..) over at my other page @classified_cargo
