The Golden Boy

Our very own Bruno Carnide travelled to London to attend the reception for the new members of The Academy.

It was a delightful evening, and now that he’s back, he tells us the following:

- Bruno Carnide: An incredible evening in London, at the reception for new members of The Academy
A very special moment, where I had the opportunity to meet the Academy’s CEO, Bill Kramer, and its President, Lynette Howell Taylor, and to be surrounded by extraordinary people who inspire me and whose work I follow with great respect.
Accompanied as always by my partner Cátia Biscaia and my friend Cyrus Neshvad, who was nominated for an Oscar, it was one of those experiences that will stay with me forever.
It is a privilege to be part of The Academy and to be able to contribute actively to this community that I admire so much.

Success is more than wealth, status, or recognition. It is the courage to define your own path and the wisdom to understand what truly matters along the way.

Academy Museum Gala 2026! The most incredible night celebrating our three honorees John Carpenter, Colman Domingo, Charlize Theron - with a performance by Taylor Swift and her band! - all in support of the impact happening year round at the museum.

It was the best way to celebrate our successes - we defined how artful, exciting, and entertaining a film exhibition can be with shows this year on JAWS, PONYO, Marilyn Monroe, and of course, The Horror Show. We broke all our attendance records. We screened nearly 600 films - all for the public - and brought some of the most incredible filmmakers to our stage. This year was boundary breaking - and we’re just getting started.

The best part of the night was all of the in-between moments - hugs to thank our supporters, shared laughs and gratitude with our filmmakers, and warmly welcoming everyone into the museum. I’ve built my career on fostering a sense of belonging in museum spaces and the gala is no different! As I told the room in my speech, these are YOUR stories and we’re here to honor them in perpetuity. What a privilege to be the one who gets to say the thank you’s.

Thank you to our co-chairs, our host committee, our presenters, our brilliant staff and the senior team, and our museum board of trustees!

Carnival is Brazil’s biggest celebration. In 2025, people paused it mid-party to watch the Oscars. Even the Academy’s own CEO told the press “It was incredible to watch videos of people stopping their Carnival celebrations to watch the awards.”When a nation shows up like that for its own, the rest of the industry pays attention.
