Our Modlin Arts Presents series celebrates 30 years this season. To mark the occasion and provide something tangible and complimentary for our patrons, we brought the brilliant @brentmccormickdesign into the fold.

Inspired by Reid Miles and the typography-led language of classic Blue Note covers, Brent built our commemorative season poster around a bold 30. When decision time arrived, our team had the impossible task of selecting a colorway—red and deep navy or the tri-color design, as seen here. Why not both? To make good use of the finalists, we’ve opted to keep the red poster version of this design as a Modlin Arts Presents event exclusive.

As you make your way out after a Modlin Arts Presents performance this year, be sure to pick up your red 30th anniversary season poster. We encourage you to share a photo on Instagram of how you end up displaying the poster. Be sure to tag us!

Improvisation in action 🎭
On Thursday 29th, the creative team behind Bill’s 44th led a hands-on workshop with Sean Edgecomb, PhD, Associate Professor, and Fairfield University Theatre students at Fairfield University’s Quick Center.

Through collaborative exercises and draft performances, students put creativity into practice, learning directly from artists at the top of their craft.

When Sean Edgecomb, PhD, Associate Professor, Visual and Performing Arts, brought his theater students to a workshop with the creative team behind Bill’s 44th, they had only been attending class together for a week.

However, guided through improvisational exercises and draft performances, by the end of the workshop, they had eased into relaxed camaraderie together.

At Fairfield University’s Quick Center, students are given the opportunity to work with artists and performers at the peak of their craft.

Don’t miss out when “Bill’s 44th” travels to Fairfield University’s Quick Center for shows on Friday, January 30 and Saturday, January 31.

Originally conceived in 2016 as a five-minute puppet slam piece, Dorothy James and Andy Manjuk revived their project, performing at the New York State Puppet Festival.

In the summer of 2024, the show debuted at the lauded Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where is was described as “nothing short of genius.” A complex, funny yet moving meditation on aging and loneliness, this is one birthday party that is not to be missed!

"Bill's 44th" by Dorothy James & Andy Manjuck at HERE Arts Center, Jan 9 & 10

Hailed by The Guardian as a “tender and boozy puppet party,” Bill’s 44th is a non-narrative tragicomedy for grown-ups with one very worried leading man – Bill. The streamers are hung, the punch has been spiked, and the cake is just begging to be eaten! Now all Bill has to do is wait for his guests to arrive. Many styles of puppetry, raucous balloons, and a cheeky piece of crudité all collide to examine the pitfalls of impatience, the wonder of loneliness, and the universal passage of time.

CHINA in no particular order!

First we played in Shanghai at the Shanghai Theatre Academy after teaching an impromptu workshop. We spent a day visiting temples, gardens, and even the Bund Sightseeing Tunnel (it is as ridiculous as it sounds).

The next week we played at the Beijing Performing Arts Center, a massive series of spaces outside the city center in Tongzhou. Working with their team was lovely especially my sound pal @younge_andy what a delight! We managed to carve out some time to visit the Great Wall and the zoo (I am not big on zoos but it was still sweet to do a trip with the team), ending in a white table cloth Peking Duck lunch before our very long journey home.

Thanks to everyone from all the teams involved! And what a ride it was with ours @instadeej @jahbiggins @tarynuhe @lazmattarus and @csrapoport and @elsiemgmt from afar. And to @performance_infinity for making it happen
