We shared a sorrow at the loss of his mother but stepped into his childhood & met his spectacular family and toured his beloved city. What an incredible few days here in Canada. Food, family, stories in both French & Italian.

Thank you to all who reached out or thought of me over this birthday weekend. My heart is full of love and gratitude. In addition to all of your good wishes, I got to spend time w/precious friends who I’ve known since childhood ( @tomkirdahy & gifted sweetheart @jonrichardsonmusic 💖💖) , college( @billydim27 💖), for decades ( @officialrachelulanet 💖)& even a fave new friend. My beloved family connected in different ways , as did treasured colleagues. Last evening I saw an incredible piece of theater (my birthday wouldn’t be complete without sharing a live performance w/ a community of other audience members). @brilliantbway is an exquisite experience starring the truly brilliant, indefatigable #DanielRadcliffe . Written by @sleevenotes with @jonnydonahoe & directed by #jeremyherrin & Duncan MacMillan , it allows all of your emotions to be engaged , delights w/the freshness of collaborative improvised moments, & filled me w/wonder, awe, connection & hope. By it’s end, I was bathed in tears of tenderness towards each human’s journey . What a perfect gift. That could ONLY be topped by being treated to a perfectly elegant dinner @cheznousmarlton which overflowed w/story sharing, kindness & support, & round the table compassion, love & hilarity ( & delicious food ) w/friends @ifumusa , @dominicfumusa & #FredNelson 💞🥂
And today I got to travel to Connecticut to see my beautiful, talented step-granddaughter Ava shine as Glinda (& Auntie Em!) in her wonderful HS production of #TheWizardofOz (a show forever near & dear to my heart) .
Feeling grateful to be alive & connected, creative & curious, ever learning , and mindful about what I have to give in the days of this glorious & challenging life of mine. Sending love to all on this Sunday night. 💖🙏🎉🎂🌸💞🥂✨✨✨✨✨

I’ve heard people say you should celebrate your birthday for a whole month… so I’m claiming that rule AND posting a *little* late! 🤦🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️

This past year has been a tumultuous one, with so much of my life centered around caring for my precious Mom and navigating her health journey. Many things were put on hold, but I’m truly grateful that I chose to pause and celebrate this milestone birthday in style.

Friday, January 16th was an unforgettable evening filled with friends, family, and those who are truly family at heart. There was great food, lots of laughter, plenty of dancing, and FABULOUS music from Harlem’s own @djstorminnorman.

A heartfelt thank you to my wonderful husband @curtis615 for everything he did to make the night so special—and to everyone who came out and braved the elements to celebrate with me. What a beautiful, joy-filled time we had! I also deeply appreciate the cards, gifts, texts and calls from everyone— you made your girl feel extra special and LOVED!! Special shout out to @audreysanders58 for all your help, Sis!🥰💖

It’s a busy and exciting time of year in the Theater Community. The start of a new season, with many new productions opening their doors to audiences here in NYC. This past Thursday night I witnessed true greatness in @oedipusbway .Like most drama students, I studied the Greek tragedies, acted in several versions of a number of them, & seen many more. So yes, I knew how this one would end. But nothing could have prepared me for how the genius writer/director #RobertIcke would choose to craft this particular version of the storytelling. Or for the depth & complexity of the truly brilliant performances of @mrmarkstrong and #LesleyManville ! 🌟🌟The entire cast is glorious & powerfully committed : the icon #AnneReid , @mrjclynch @livvmo 💫@bhaskerpatel #SamuelBrewer @jamesswilbraham #JordanScowen #TeagleFBougere @animesaperez @brianthomasabrahamactor @cormier.denise @karlkenzler @oliver.rowland.jones . Every design element is an exquisite contributor to this greatness : congrats to #hildegardBechtler #WojciechDziedzic #NatashaChivers #talyarden & #TomGibbons whose sound design is a dynamic, yet complimentary character of it’s own. Thanks to everyone for your sweet Birthday love! This was my first birthday in almost 20 years without my daughter Darmia home, & it having been almost 9 years since my husband Shawn passed. I so appreciated hearing from so many people with their loving good wishes. In the midst of these incredibly difficult times in our country, our world-I really had no idea what I wanted to do to celebrate my bday. And then, my friend @ifumusa texted about getting together w/a few gals. And one of them was my pal & #WonderfulTown sis #JenniferWestfeldt , who generously offered to host us. In a day or 2 Jenn (truly #TheHostesswiththeMostest) gathered a few more friends, & treated us to a beautiful evening of delicious food, wonderful conversation, laughter, storytelling, warmth, love and connection. I didn’t know how much I needed it until I was in the midst of it, surrounded by these amazing, intelligent,compassionate,hilarious, kind & gifted humans whose life paths have blessedly crossed with mine. Today I am basking in gratitude. To my friends, my family, colleagues, mentors, the Universe that holds us all, and to my Mom & Dad who brought me into this life-endless thanks & love.💖🙏🙌💞🎂✨✨✨✨

It seems a lifetime ago that I was fortunate to attend the opening night on Bway of the FANTASTIC #CultofLove @2stnyc back in December . This play, written by the brilliant #LeslyeHeadland and gorgeously directed by #trippcullman landed for me on SO many levels. 1st of all, it’s just always thrilling & inspiring to see a new play (though it should be noted that this play was 1st produced in 2019 at the @iamatheatre ✨) that surprises, delights, provokes, enlightens, reflects,resonates with & moves so many… in even just a single collective viewing. Secondly, to get to experience my friend & on-screen #BrilliantMinds son @zacharyquinto so beautifully inhabit this character and this world filled my heart with pride and joy. This entire cast is truly off the charts, playing together like a glorious chamber orchestra that seems to be improvising jazz at times, it feels so organic. Bravo to glorious @bollymernard @robotika @barbieferreira @therebeccahenderson @mrchrislowell @rasche1944 @christophersearsart @marewinningham @shailenewoodley !! I mean 🤯🌟✨ As the show started , I was agog at the stunning, rich & layered set & thought, “ that must be a John Lee Beatty set!” And indeed, it was. Every design element was perfect , & the music, an integral part of telling this family’s story - was most excellent & truly transporting. Had such a special night w/my pal @billydim27 , & later at the party celebrating with so many wonderful friends & colleagues, including amazing human @celiakb . I haven’t stopped thinking abt this play & recommending it to people. They are performing through Sunday Feb 2nd . if you haven’t seen it or don’t have your tickets yet -I strongly urge you not to miss this. #Family #Theater #Art #Life 💖🙌🙏🌟👏

Memory Mondays started at lunch with a friend I hadn’t seen since a teen from my Temple Beth El Sunday School days. She was one of my first crushes. Ended at dinner with these two wonderful women, Anna Louizos & Donna Murphy for a mini NYU reunion. I should’ve brought a sleeping bag because we could’ve stayed all night catching up on each other’s lives and this crazy world we’re in now. Definitely to be continued…
