How I wrote my new track ‘Stay for a While’

Back in October 2024, I visited @billyleriff at the @purpleheart.studios in Surrey to do some songwriting but had no idea what we were going to write about (typical type B) – side note, just LOOK at how gorgeous this studio is!

Billy started playing this chord progression on the guitar and I instantly knew it had to be a love song. Now I’m a bit of a whimsical romantic (some say delusional, others say optimistic) when it comes to relationships and wanted to write about my belief in love at first meet and fate. Billy started messing around with drum programmes and bass lines, while I hummed some melodies over the top. Working on a shared doc with some lyrics, we brainstormed different ideas (imagining 2 people meeting at a bar and having an instant connection) and created the first demo, writing the whole song in one day – fuelled by the best sweet treats from South Wales @doughnutters_official

I’ve been sitting on this song for agesss and I’m so glad you finally get to hear it.

‘Stay for a while’ is out on all streaming platforms now (link in bio)💜

We sat down with Billy LeRiff to discuss the raw, unfiltered truth about making it in the music scene. His story isn't your typical overnight success narrative, but rather a testament to the power of networking and seizing opportunities.

Picture this: an 18-year-old Billy, thrown into a songwriting camp in London, ends up co-writing a country song with Nashville's Alan McKendree Palmer. The result? An invitation to Nashville, the heart of country music, to collaborate with top-tier writers an

Billy LeRiff—a name that's been floating around the indie scene for over two decades. But is it just a name, or is there more to his story?

In our latest episode, Billy opens up about the unexpected influence of Nashville on his music and how it reshaped his approach to songwriting. The UK, typically known for its rock and punk roots, is experiencing a country music renaissance, and Billy's right in the thick of it. Who would've thought that Nashville would become a beacon for British artists

Wishing you all a very Happy New Year! It’s a been a quieter year for us but we’ve had some little victories along the way. Thank you for continuing to stream and support our music! We can’t guarantee live shows in 2026, but we can guarantee lots of new music we’ve been quietly working on behind the scenes, that we’re really excited about. Next chapter starts with our first new single, ‘Midnight Swimmers’, out a week today, Friday 9th. Big love, Billy, Ian & Marc 💜 x

Local music scenes rely on hard work and dedication from a few extraordinarily good people, struggling to build audiences and often dealing with reluctant or apathetic venues.
🙏 Thank you to Dave of @grinny_grooves_ who bowed out last night after 12 years of New Music nights at the Dorset Arms in East Grinstead. The @annahowie band et al gave him a fitting send off.
