This weekend I rode a competition in Ticino and came out with the win.
But honestly, the trophy wasn’t on my mind.

I kept thinking about @bobsichel . Bob was a friend, an incredible rider, and one of the most passionate wakeboarders I’ve ever known. He wasn’t chasing contests, he was chasing creativity, going big, and sharing this sport with everyone around him. That’s what made him special.

Bob passed away this year, and while riding I felt his spirit with me. This one was for him.

At the Wakeboard Academy, just like Bob did, we try to live and share the passion for wakeboarding every single day. Because that’s what it’s really about.

For Bob. 🖤 #teambob

I first met Bob Sichel in 2005 at The Wakeboard Camp, in Clermont, Florida. I was the only camper that week and Bob was in training as a camper and future coach. Bob and I hung out that whole week and I learned that he wanted to be a pro wakeboarder and had recently moved to the camp with the aim to live and work there full-time. I thought that was super cool, but not possible for someone like me, with very little skill, no money, and no boat.

A few years later, when my suppressed wakeboarding desires became so unbearable that I couldn’t not pursue them, I set some outrageous goals and applied to coach at The Wakeboard Camp. At the time, I was living in California, was just married, and had nothing to my name but hope and a dream. The stars aligned and TWC took me in, taught me, and gave me the opportunity to pursue my dreams. Bob and the crew became more than my friends — they became my family. They believed in me, invested in me, and gave me the opportunity that I had been dreaming of. I remember feeling like I needed to pinch myself every day to make sure it was all real. The lessons I learned, relationships that I built, and memories I made during those years at the camp will be cherished forever. They were truly some of the best years of my life.

This week, that Wakeboard Camp family lost our brother, Bob, to cancer. Bob fought valiantly, surrounded by his immediate family and his extended wakeboard family.

We love you Bob. Thank you for taking a chance on me. Thank you for always being there, for helping Mandy and I unload boxes into our first apartment, for always showing up first and leaving last, for never complaining, for always holding me accountable to a higher standard, for pursuing your dreams and for inspiring and enabling me to pursue mine.

Rest easy, friend. We miss you. Until we meet again.
💔🙏🏼😢
