These past few weeks seem so surreal, and it’s been hard to accept what has actually happened. Grieving can be so tumultuous. One second you’re feeling ok, and the next you’re doing your best to hold it together in the middle of a crowded gym. But I’m grateful for my family and friends for checking in… I love every single one of you, and I couldn’t do what I do without your help. I’m also grateful for this sport for giving me a channel to release all of these emotions. My mom never got a chance to see me lift, but I know June 6th she’ll be in attendance, and I plan on giving her the performance she deserves. Almost time.

I just wanted to thank everyone that reached out, sent a text, comment, reaction, gave a hug or a smile, and showed up to support our family. Saying goodbye to a legend has been one of the hardest things our family has had to do, and you all showed up for us in the biggest way… we love you for that. There really are no words that can express the love I felt from our family and friends. Thanks everyone, I love you all.
🫶 🙏 👊
Btw I had no idea my mom was such a babe. This was the first time I saw these pictures from her youth. She was emo before emo was cool 🖤

“And every time I feel the nights grow cold,
your memory reminds me to stay gold.”

Do you know how hard it is to keep a secret from someone you talk to every single day about every single thing…FOR A MONTH!? Getting the message out, getting old friends back on the mat for the occasion, operation get the son home from college by any means necessary!

Jiu Jitsu is hard, it’s rewarding, it’s fun, it’s one of my biggest joys in life but it’s hard. Maybe the hardest thing one can willingly choose to do. You need a support group, you need your teammates, that’s how you push through the grind of what we do. For the last 8 years no one has been a bigger cheerleader, no one has given me more support than this incredible, driven, fearless woman.

Congratulations on your black belt T Wolf! One of my best friends and one of the best humans I know on and off the mats 💛

⚔️It’s been a tough, rough uphill battle. I always showed up, did my best to prepare and gave it my all. They say train hard so the fight is easy, but sometimes that doesn’t work out. As we get older our minds convince us and drive us to keep going while the body steadily slows down. We accumulate injuries and ignore them because there’s no time to stop, no time to heal; always another fight, always a teammate you’re trying to keep up with. We are all different and I feel I’ve pushed my body as far as I’m willing to. I do walk around in pain constantly and have things that may not heal now that I’m older, but do my best not to complain or show it. I’m more than halfway to 43 years old; I have nothing left to prove.
Now is the time to focus on my health, rehabilitation and longevity in this game and a good quality of life for my family so they can enjoy me.
It is with a heavy heart that I will be stepping away from competing in Jiu Jitsu. I will always still train and eventually make the status of Professor🥋, it will just be at a more conservative pace instead of an all out war🧘🏽‍♂️

We may have had a number of challenges to overcome, but the support of the people who REALLY love me, like deep down, would do anything for me, both on this earth and up in the heavens, has really helped me. I didn’t want to lose @dbl0ck or @katy625, and I’ll forever be grateful for them, for the time I got to spend with them and for the memories we made and for the ones we’ll when we see each other again. I’m so blessed to have love and support from my team here on earth and protection and invincibility from the heavens in the skies above me. Thank you to every one of you who has been there while I’ve navigated storms and dodged hurdles. This one’s for you ♥️
