Struggling to know when to bring in your next track? Save this Hot Cue tip for your next DJ practice session.

Understanding phrasing is one of the most important skills when learning how to DJ. Knowing where different sections of a track begin can make a huge difference to how smooth your transitions sound.

And one of the easiest ways to get more confident with phrasing? Hot Cues.

Think of Hot Cues as digital Post-it notes for your tracks. They let you mark important moments in a song and instantly jump back to them whenever you need.

Here's how you can use them:

• Understand phrasing: Mark where new sections of a track begin so you know when to start your mix.

• Prepare your transitions: Set Hot Cues at key points to make navigating your music easier.

• Get creative: Jump between different sections of a track and experiment with live beat sampling to add something unique to your mixes.

It's a simple technique that can make a big difference, especially when you're just starting your DJ journey.

The more familiar you become with your tracks and their structure, the more confident you'll feel behind the decks.
