As the 13th Tanzania Health Summit comes to a close, one question stays with us at #AAPH_Africa: what does it take to truly own our health?

Over the past three days, #THS2026 brought together policymakers, researchers, health professionals, innovators, partners, and communities to engage in important conversations around health sovereignty - from strengthening health systems and services to advancing innovation, partnerships, financing and driving local solutions.

#THS2026 What does it actually take to change health outcomes for young people in Tanzania?

Day 1 at the 13th Tanzania Health Summit and we're in Hall 5 answering this question.

At the #AAPH_Africa booth we’re highlighting examples through programmes like Changemakers @changemaker_grp, where we are taking nutrition education into schools, meeting young people where they are, and building healthy habits that last.

Want to learn more? Let’s connect tomorrow in Hall 5.

Legacy Partnership.

During the 14th MUHAS Scientific Conference, #AAPH_Africa hosted a satellite session reflecting on our longstanding partnership with Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (@muhimbiliuniversity). We explored legacy research collaborations that stirred the establishment of AAPH; and the tangible products realized thus far including generation and translation of evidence into policy for stronger public health systems.

The conversation reminded us that enduring partnerships are built on clear goals as they thrive on trust, friendship, curiosity, and a shared commitment to improving lives. Looking ahead, the panel insisted on the growing role of public-private partnerships in strengthening research, capacity, and knowledge translation.

Our sincere thanks to our panelists for sharing their insights and the history behind a partnership that continues to strive #ForBetterPublicHealth.

💡 BE THE LIGHT 💡

Third time attending the Adolescent Health Conference in Sub Saharan Africa, under the ARISE Network. But this time, it feels different. It’s either the conversations have changed, or I have changed. But most definitely, the conversations haven’t changed, I have changed.

This conference, in particular, has helped me realize that the same rooms can feel different when you’ve grown enough to understand the weight of the conversations happening inside them.

What do I mean? What once felt like important conversations now feels like personal responsibility. The more I grow, the more I understand that real change in adolescent health, policy, and public health systems will require more than conversations, it requires active participation.

And as a Public Health Professional and Science Communication Expert at @aaph_africa, led by Dr. @marymsando , this experience has reminded me how important it is not only to understand these conversations, but also to help translate research, evidence, and interventions into knowledge that can create real impact in communities.

I am grateful to continue being part of spaces like this, learning from brilliant researchers and global leaders who are actively shaping the future of young people in Africa.

💡 BE THE LIGHT 💡

One of the most meaningful parts of the celebrations, was that I wasn’t just an attendant but a contributor as well, co-hosting with Joy - @binti_kimambo 💗

My favorite parts was how each table had its own identity: advocates, go-getters, disruptors, and watching people lean into those names, connect with them, and bring them to life in their own way. It made the whole experience feel even more alive. 🥳

Grateful that I got to add value, not just by being present, but by contributing to the experience itself. 😍

💡BE THE LIGHT 💡

The beauty of celebrations is that you don’t experience them alone. ☺️

I got to celebrate Women’s Month alongside incredible women: seniors, colleagues, mentors, and young aspiring girls in the health sector. 📍

Different journeys, different stories, yet somehow connected in the same space. ✨

Thanks to our CEO at @aaph_africa, @marymsando, who also serves as the President of @mewata_tanzania, for envisioning such a beautiful gathering. 💗

Women’s Celebration Month this March 🤍

At AAPH, we are proud to have co-hosted this meaningful celebration alongside MEWATA, grounded in our shared commitment to strengthening capacity within the health sector.

This impactful collaboration is made even stronger under the leadership of Dr. Mary Mwanyika Sando, who serves as both the Chief Executive Officer of AAPH and the President of MEWATA, bridging vision, strategy, and action across both institutions.

Our shared value in capacity building continues to be a driving force behind initiatives like this—bringing together experienced women in health and aspiring young girls to learn, connect, and grow. Through this alignment, we are not only building skills and knowledge but also nurturing the next generation of leaders who will shape the future of health systems.

Together, we remain committed to creating spaces that empower, inspire, and strengthen the foundation of public health leadership.

We are especially grateful to our esteemed speakers for their presence, time, and the wealth of wisdom they deposited in us.
