STATUE OF WORKING HORSES , in bronze, 1936. In Izmir Kulturpark (Izmir International Fair) since 1940. This is one of the first sculptural works by sculptor Şadi Çalik , who also created sculptures of women in Izmir Kulturpark. A reflection of the love and gratitude of the statesmen who once ruled the country for animals. On 9 September 1922 Izmir was set on fire by invading gangs while the Independence of Izmir was celebrated. Houses, offices, theatres and cinemas where burned down and debris could not be removed for many years. The foundation of today’s Izmir Fair was laid on 1 January 1936. 186 horses were damaged during the debris removals and the Mayor Behçet Uz ordered Şadi Çalik to keep the memories of these horses alive. #izmir #izmirinternationalfair #izmirkültürpark #sadicalik
