On May 19th I posted images of Purple Martins at their man made nest and was hot happy with the shutter speed I used. Since I had never taken pictures of Purple Martins and know they are small birds, I decided to set my shutter speed at 1/2500. This past Saturday I returned and experimented with a shutter speed of 1/4000. Purple Martins weigh between 1 1/2 ounces, are about 7 1/2 inches long and can fly up to 40 Mph. I was using my Sony 600 Prime a decided to set my aperture at f/4 and ISO at 3200.Shutter Speed, aperture and ISO make up the “exposure triangle”. Shutter speed dictates how long your cameras sensor is exposed to light. A faster shutter speed darkens your image. To compensate for this, you need to open your aperture wider and increase ISO to maintain proper brightness. The ongoing problem is the higher the ISO, the more noise or grain is produced. I also wanted to get up close and the higher shutter speed captures more detail. Learning and understanding the “exposure triangle” it’s important, but does not replace experience, patience and repetition. Learn from your failures and accept those failures. .i am posting four photos. WHICH DO YPU PREFER?#birdlover #birdlovers #birdwatching #birdwatchingphotography #birdsofinstagram
