Hey again, guys and gals!

Time to explain to you about my fourth job - writing. And yes, I treat it as a job, because it is 😂 (*trust me, reading a text 232243 times before publication IS exhausting and does require stamina).

So, how did I become an author? I've always told stories. Like, ever since I could talk. I've always remembered the plot of movies or books and yes, I can repeat it afterwards. So, stories were always part of my life, but writing wasn't. Until I read an article about J .K. Rowling where it said she started writing in elementary school, telling stories for her classmates. And, then and there, with all the enthusiasm of a 10-11-year-old, I decided that if she could do it, so could I.

My first stories were self-crafted "books" out of sheets of printer paper, glued together and the bubbly paper from boxes of chocolates (*the one that separates the pralines from the lid). I used to do the illustrations for those books and soon glued sheets of printer paper became notebooks. I used to write on one page and draw the illustration on the opposite page. Those were all stories about talking animals, I should still have them somewhere

The first book, like, the first story I started writing consistently, was actually in English. I was 14 and was studying English extensively, so I used the story to fuel my motivation to learn the language (*I'm a pantser, so I really have zero idea what happens next in the story). Fun thing is that I haven't published that story yet (*as I have rewritten it several times).

The story that I actually finished is those 3 books you see on the first picture. "Различен Следовател" is the longest thing I've ever written (*12 books total, 3 of them published) and it is an urban fantasy series for investigation of magical crimes. The story there's long, I'm gonna tell it in another post.

So, I was 26 when I finished the first 3 books of the series and at 29 I published my first book, the thriller based on true events, titled "112" (*yes, like the emergency phone and yes, that's the point of the title).

This post is already getting too long, so I guess I'm gonna tell you bits and pieces along the way.

Hey guys and gals!

So, in my BG account @bistrawrites , I have a recurring post tradition called "вдъхновение във вторник" or "inspiration Tuesday" and I really want to see if you'd like it as much as my Bulgarian readers.

Each Tuesday I share quotes, either about writing, or motivational ones, and a few words about the quote. Feel most welcome to join the discussion 😊🙃

So, we start off with something that probably summarises me very well. I am wordy, even my comments in social media are wordy 😂 And yes, writing short things (*like short stories, for example) is a problem for me. Even my poems are LONG 🫣🤦‍♀️ So, Mr. Pascal, I totally feel for you 🙃

How are things with you? Do you tend to write things on the shorter or longer end of the spectrum? Let me know in the comments 🙃

Hey again, guys and gals!

So, in the previous post, I told you about my main job, my "9 to 5". If you missed the memo, my 9 to 5 is being a translator/interpreter. That's my main job, I get most of my income from that salary. Job number 2 is being a freelance translator/interpreter. Mind you, I do have the education (*both BA in "English and American studies" and and MA in translation).

Job number 3 is being a freelance photographer. I've been into photography ever since I was 17, when I got my first compact camera. Then I moved to DSLR and eventually, got an MA in Photography. I also hold titles with the Royal Photograpic Society of Great Britain AND The European Federation of Photographers.

Those are some pics of me working, so I'll go one by one to explain my journey:

1 - that's my favourite photographer pic. Here I'm at an event and I'm having fun in the studio. Pic must date back to 2017-2018, not sure.

2 to 4 - For two years I worked as the Photographer in chief of the volunteer division of UNESCO Bulgaria. While doing that, we were sent on an expedition to South-Eastern Bulgaria. The goal? To take loads of pics, videos, record interviews with people, you name it. 2 weeks of doing that in 2017. You probably notice, that I'm smiling only if I have a camera in hand 😂😅

5 - this is a picture from the exhibition with pics from that same expedition (*mid 2018).

6 - me being super happy at a photographers gathering, having gotten to work with two cameras (*and super expensive lenses). Must be taken in 2019.

The rest of the pictures are some samples of my work. I used to be actively working ip until Covid hit and then, during the lockdown, I needed to put my photography career on pause. It's been trying to get back into that as of recently and I do take on gigs, I'm just going way slower than I used to.

See the first comment for more.

Hey again, guys and gals!

It's high time I actually introduce myself, right? So, you already know I'm a writer (*it says so in the banner, after all 😅). Still, I don't work as a writer, or rather, writing is not my only job. It's actually 1 out of 4 jobs. 😅

I'll give you info on each of those in a separate post, because the story is way, way, way too long for a single one.

So, job number 1, my "9 to 5" and what gets me most of my income - I am a translator and interpreter (*by both profession and education, more on education in another post as well, the story there is no less complicated). I work as a translator/interpreter both as a freelancer AND as an employee.

If you happen to watch Bloomberg TV Bulgaria or Bulgaria On Air, you'll often see me in the studio interpreting for guests OR behind the scenes, as only a voice, either interpreting from a booth OR just dubbing something that is currently on air.

I also translate international news there (*and dub them, when they need someone for that, that's exactly what I'm gonna do in the picture, by the way).

I've always loved interpreting (*which way more stressful, but also way more fun than translation, in my opinion) and I'm never bored at work. Like, never. I've been working in translation ever since I graduated, by the way, just different things.

My freelance translation/interpreting work is no less exciting (*sometimes you get really, really interesting jobs), but it's not as visible as the work I do at my day job.

See ya in the next info post!

Hey, guys and gals!

My name is Bistra Stoimenova and I am a Bulgarian author of 9 published books (and 5 audiobooks on Storytel). Most non-native speakers of Bulgarian have difficulty pronouncing my last name, so "Bistra" is fine, don't worry.

To all followers of my Bulgarian account, @bistrawrites - don't worry, this is NOT a fake account, it's me, I created it to attract foreign audience as well 😊

So, in this and the following several posts, I'm gonna try to introduce myself. I started writing at age 11 (*why then, in another post), but I have always told stories, even before I could write.

It has been like that ever since. Characters live in my head and line up to tell their stories. I completed my first novel at 17 (100 pages of handwritten text I wrote in-between and after classes) but then needed to take some break from writing and school and university life took their toll on me.

8 years and 4 university degree certificates later, I came back to writing. The first three books I wrote are essentially a fan-fic of my favourite urban fantasy series. (*more on that in another post)

Then I moved to other genres, as I have a lot of stories in my head. The first book I published - 112 - is actually the sixth I wrote. (*and that's why I count the published books, the ones I've written awaiting publication are like 30 already).

I usually write contemporary fiction and I have a knack for crime and mystery but I would not shun fantasy or funny short stories. I even write the occasional poem.

I am Bulgarian, so most of the things I write are in Bulgarian, but I also write in English, from time to time (as you can see from the blog posts). Writing is not my primary job, but it's one of them. See ya in the next post!

Подкаст с @madlen_algafari от @velizar_v ...
