I spent my long weekend filming a short film that really touched my heart. Thanks @ferdi_djanting for writing a lovely story and trusting me to help bring "10 Years From Now" to life. And it was so great to work with @bitchingene after meeting in a workshop earlier in the year. I look forward to seeing how it all turns out.

Want to shoot film with me? 🎞️📸😎

There’s something about shooting film that digital never quite gives you.

The uncertainty. The waiting. The fact that once I press the shutter, I have to trust the light, the film, the person in front of me, and whatever instinct got me there in the first place.

No screen to check. No instant reassurance. Sometimes you nail it. Sometimes you don’t. That’s part of the deal.

For me, film portrait and fashion photography isn’t about chasing perfection. It’s about the process. The conversation between frames. The little moments that happen when nobody is quite sure what the final photograph is going to look like.

That unknown is exactly why I still love shooting film.

“SIBLINGS” (Hugh’s Version)

Couldn’t count the amount of times last year the sis @bitchingene and I talked about making our own films whenever we weren’t auditioning, actively in a role, or in acting classes so this one’s been a long time coming.

“SIBLINGS” explores the complex emotional dynamic between siblings (duh) particularly when things aren’t so picturesque.

This piece is one of two pieces produced by Gene and I in which this is framed from Hugh’s own recount of the interaction. As such I wanted to make some choices quite intentional to convey as such.

I want to explain more, but I’ll drop an explainer / dive into the piece after Gene releases her take 🫡

Continuing on from the last post, these are some of my favourite films from outside the big Kodak and Fujifilm names. Some are original. Some are probably repacked. Doesn’t really matter. What matters is the feeling. The look. The way a certain roll can get under your skin and stay there.
Some of these are still easy enough to find. Some are long gone. A few I wish I had more time with, like Adox Color Implosion. Others I’m just grateful are still kicking around, like Same Same But Different. In no order. 👀

Inspired by @legacyfilmlab I found myself thinking about my favourite @fujifilm_profilm stocks over the years. Some are still alive, some are long gone, & some only exist now in old fridges, half forgotten camera bags & memory.

4. Fujifilm 100 - still around picked up some from @decisivemomentshop & @walkensfilm
5. Fujifilm C200 - discontinued - I got my last role from @theduckroomjb
6. Fujifilm Neopan 400 Professional - discontinued
7. Fujifilm Superia 400 - discontinued
8. Fujifilm Neopan Acros 100 - well available

Industrial 100 is still the one that gets me. I loved it enough to get a roll tattooed on me. I still remember picking up my first roll in Japan and feeling like I’d found something not everyone understood.

Some took time, like Pro 400H. Some hit straight away, like Superia Premium 400 and C200. Some disappeared before we were ready. A few are still hanging on. And a few I wish I had shot a hell of a lot more.

Then there’s the tattoo. Because some films don’t just pass through your camera. They stay in your blood. 🫶
