“Everything Happens for a Reason”

The time has come. Tomorrow is the day for the 2024 Burn Boot Camp Athlete Games Regionals. Cait and I will be representing Burn Boot Camp Centerville at the Worthington, OH regional.

I set competing in the Athlete Games as one of my annual goals. I released a reel announcing my intentions and got to training. I’ve spent months preparing. Working hard to perfect my double unders, pull-ups, and overall endurance.

Most of this training was done alone early in the morning on Saturday and Sundays. I’d run through the full events. I’d pick out portions of the events and focus on them. Week by week I saw progress.

As of today I feel the fittest and healthiest I’ve ever been…except one thing. I can’t tie it to any one moment, but about a month ago I injured my left elbow. Most likely cause is just overtraining or a freak accident, possibly on pull-ups as that was my weakest exercise. I’ve had my Amazing PT @coachcalebj_ working on it for the last couple weeks. It has improved, but unfortunately not fully recovered.

In addition to some clicking and discomfort, I have lost some strength from taking time off to recover.

I say all this to reiterate I’m not dropping out, I’m not quitting. I push my members every day to show up and show out. Push their limits and challenge themselves. And that is what I’m going to do. I’m doing this for me, my sons, and my members. We don’t give up when things get tough. We do hard things.

Outside of divine intervention in the next 18 hours, I have no expectation that I can complete 15 unbroken pull-ups in event 1…I tried 3 reps this morning and my elbow sounded like gears grinding with no oil.

Surprisingly most of the other exercises don’t bother it as much. So I will continue until the end.

Control what you can control. Don’t worry about the rest. If it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you.
Putting it in God’s hands.

I thank everyone for their continued encouragement and support. My friends, family, coworkers, and members are the best!
