We screamed SHUT IT DOWN & they heard us! This is a reminder, WHEN WE FIGHT WE WIN! I never had a doubt we would get it SHUT DOWN eventually but this news today came as a wonderful surprise. We want to thank everyone who had a part in this. Everyone who came out to the rallies, hung flyers, reposted on social media, spoke to reporters, signed our petitions, called up or emailed our representatives, etc. YOU 🫵 DID THIS!!! Of course we also want to thank our local elected officials for standing by us & advocating for us @repdangoldman @sen_gounardes, @joannesimonforbrooklyn & @cmshahanahanif. The @nycmayor & the @nyc_dot’s @ydanis_rodriguez for finally shutting this concrete recycling facility down.

However while we’re grateful, happy & appreciative, we are also skeptical because lf this was part of negotiations to turn a No vote on the BMT Final Vision plan to a yes then we strongly oppose that.

The concrete recycling facility should be shut down but not in some quid pro quo to flip a vote on the BMT, but because it’s the right thing to do & should’ve never been put here bordering a residential neighborhood to begin with.

We all recall the EDC’s threats to not only keep the concrete recycling on site but that if there was a NO vote on the BMT Final Vision Plan we would get more toxic uses of the waterfront as a sort of punishment. We all remember well the EDC’s Jennifer Sun’s “this is no idle threat”quote.

So with the BMT vote still looming next week, it’s rational to question whether this surprising announcement is part of a larger deal to proceed with this GPP which the community still vehemently opposes.

To be clear, we’re elated with this announcement but THE COMMUNITY STILL VOTES NO on the EDC’s BMT Final Vision Plan & reject it being used as any kind of bargaining chip in relation to the BMT vote.

THE COMMUNITY VOTES NO & as far as we’re concerned there’s no last minute deal or incentive will change that. The public engagement period is over & therefore any chance for us to weigh in on any new deals or incentives is over & so should the negotiations. Only thing left to do is vote & we say VOTE NOW & VOTE NO!
