We’re beyond hyped to bring LA-based textile artist Billy Kheel (@bkheel) to Encinitas this Saturday!
Billy turns felt + thread into seriously fun soft sculptures, portraits, and installations, with a playful take on sports, pop culture, and everything we love to obsess over. His work has landed him collaborations with NBA, Nike, Jordan Brand, Madison Square Garden, Hulu, and more.
Now he’s bringing that energy to San Diego for “Friars Club” — his homage to Padres baseball and the fine city of San Diego. ⚾️🤎💛🌴

⚾️ FRIARS CLUB 🌴 Opening October 10th at Club Paradise—“Friars Club” is a brand-new San Diego Padres-themed art exhibition by artist Billy Kheel @bkheel , renowned for his distinctive sports-themed fabric art. Kheel transforms felt, thread, jerseys, and other textiles into colorful soft sculptures, wall hangings, portraits, and installations, celebrating the characters, emotion, humor, and mythology surrounding the games we love. For Friars Club, he turns his attention to the unique history and personality of the Padres and the city they call home: Baseball culture is often associated with gritty, working-class cities where the game becomes a defining part of everyday life. San Diego offers a very different backdrop. The Padres play in a city known for beautiful weather, beaches, surfing, and an unmistakably laid-back Southern California culture. That contrast is at the heart of Friars Club: a baseball-obsessed city in the middle of a surfing paradise. The exhibition explores the unlikely but natural relationship between these two worlds—the intensity, tradition, characters, and rituals of baseball alongside the color, freedom, irreverence, and easygoing spirit of San Diego. The Padres’ distinctive uniforms, logos, and history become a visual language for celebrating not only a team, but a place and its culture. Through his signature fabric-based approach, Kheel reimagines familiar Padres imagery as tactile works of art, bringing the team’s visual history into a medium traditionally associated with craft and domestic life. Part sports history, part San Diego love letter, and part celebration of what makes the Padres—and their fans—different. 📍 Where: Club Paradise 🗓 When: Opening October 10th Come experience this playful collision of baseball nostalgia, Southern California style, and contemporary sports culture. 🤎💛 #SanDiegoPadres #FriarFaithful #LetsGoPadres #PadresFan #Padres

This reel is dedicated to everyone who showed up and proudly became an honorary Norwegian today. 🇳🇴 The result didn’t go Norway’s way, but the spirit absolutely did. Thank you to everyone who waved flags, wore the colors, cheered until the final whistle, and made today such a blast. We loved meeting every one of you. Once an honorary Norwegian, always an honorary Norwegian. ❤️🤍💙 #RallyWagon4Life #HonoraryNorwegians #WorldCup #CommunityCreativity

Day 2 at Whittier Narrows is in the books, and somehow this thing just keeps getting better. Masks, flags, banners, laughs, and a whole lot of imagination. The best part? We had a bunch of repeat offenders stop by today. Some came all the way back across town just to make something new, and a few are already making plans to meet us in Reseda. That means the world to us. We’ll be back tomorrow for both matches, ready with felt, scissors, and plenty of questionable ideas. And yes… we’re especially excited to cheer on Norway. 🇳🇴 Come make something. Rally Wagon for life. #RallyWagon #RallyWagon4Life #WorldCup #CommunityArt IdeasWelcome PerfectionOptional

Whittier Narrows — Day One is in the books. What a day. Kids, parents, grandparents, soccer fans, artists, and curious passersby all stopped to make something together. Watching ideas come to life around the tables never gets old. France moves on, though I was quietly pulling for Morocco. That’s the beauty of it—great matches, great people, and a whole lot of creativity. We’ll be back tomorrow and Saturday. Come make something with us. ⚽🎨✨Probably a good idea

I’ve had so much fun watching people make masks at the Rally Wagon — team spirit, wild ideas, tiny details, big personalities, all of it showing up in felt. So for the next three days at Whittier Narrows, we’re hosting a Best Mask Contest. Best mask wins a Rally Wagon mask kit: a stack of felt in every color we can find, a few templates of your choice, and a brand new pair of scissors. Come make something. Come wear something. Come get weird for the matches. Whittier Narrows Park July 9, 10, 11 All day during the games. Ideas welcome. Perfection optional.
