Big thanks to @cmritajoseph for supporting the Community Opportunity to Purchase Act (COPA), critical legislation to preserve affordable housing and keep working-class New Yorkers in New York City!

COPA (Intro 905) will give communities a powerful tool to stabilize and expand permanently affordable, community-controlled housing. The bill has been carefully vetted through years of City Council deliberation, broad public input, and learning from San Francisco and other cities that have successfully enacted COPA and similar policies.

COPA is on the brink of passage — backed by a strong City Council majority, Mayor Mamdani, and 200+ affordable housing developers, community land trusts, tenant associations, and community development lenders ready to ensure COPA’s effective implementation. Help push COPA over the finish line! Call your Council Members and tell them to pass COPA now: bit.ly/COPACALL

This past month, the Hack family’s home of 34 years was demolished by the City of New York, marking the first time NYC has ordered the demolition of a home due to repetitive rainfall flooding.

@rebuildbydesign’s Director Amy Chester and @bklvlup’s COO Zalyia Grillet, respond in their new @nydailynews op-ed, “Flooding washes away generational wealth.”

“For many families, their home is their greatest and sometimes only source of wealth. When a family is displaced or that home is repeatedly damaged or lost, the impact can follow them for generations.”
