Next up is Sano catalog number two, 2004. We did two catalogs in ‘04, I don’t recall why, but we were growing like crazy. Honestly it was insanity. 2004 was our best year ever and now it’s like a blur to me.

By early ‘04, we were really rolling. Distributors from other countries were calling and dealers and customers from across the country had to have our stuff. We were shipping stuff all over the world, but we weren’t keeping up with the payments from those orders very well. It was a loose ship with me traveling between soCal and Chicago and with over a mil in sales, it was hard to track everything because we wanted to also keep making new parts and stay on top of the pit bike market too.

This catalog was much more detailed that the first one. We added full color and replacement parts in it as well because people wanted more options and didn’t want the same exact thing as their buddy (or did they?)

What I forgot to mention in the catalog one video was our artist Cory Bender. Back then he was know as Epic Designs, these days you can check him out on ig as @blacart. Without him, the Sano logo that you know and love wouldn’t have existed, almost all of the graphics and t-shirt designs were his designs as well. We would maybe put a little tweak on something here or there, but he initially came up with the designs. We paid him well for his services, but I really never thanked him. Thanks Cory. You truly made Sano stand apart from the others. I hope you’re doing well and I’d love to get a beer with you some day. 🍺

Coming from the moto industry and being a very influenceable kid, I wanted Sano to be different than all the other brands. Not just hard parts, but a lifestyle brand with tons of graphics, apparel, stickers, videos and more, something we did better than most of our competitors. That and the overall look/impression was very important to me.

Lastly, I’m posting this on my mom’s birthday today, but she has been gone for 23 years now. She never got to see or knew the Sano project at all. Little does she know that without her, Sano would have never happened. RIP mom, happy bday. #sano #sanomx #pitbike #crf50 #klx110 #minimoto #mxculture
