The Incident: Body camera footage shows the aftermath of the shooting inside the classroom, where a reading specialist restrained the 6-year-old boy. The student had taken an unsecured firearm from his mother’s purse, brought it to school in his backpack, and shot Zwerner, causing gunshot wounds to her hand and chest.  Mother's Legal Outcome: The child's mother, Deja Taylor, pleaded guilty to felony child neglect and accepted responsibility for the incident. She was sentenced to two years in prison and subsequently released from state custody to community supervision.  Civil Lawsuit & Damages: Abby Zwerner was awarded $10 million in damages following a civil trial against former Assistant Principal Ebony Parker, who failed to take action despite warnings that the student may have had a firearm.  Status of the Child: The child, described as having emotional issues, was placed in the custody of his great-grandfather and was not criminally charged. #Virginia #School #Gun #6YearOld
