On May 22nd, I had the privilege to gather a group of local doers at @HalseyArtCenter for The After Hour – Sound, Stillness & City — an intimate dinner experience exploring how stillness, story, and sound shape the communities we build in a city that never stops moving. A student, an editor, teacher, mother, politician, restauranteur, of course a couple creatives and non-profit leaders... So grateful for those able to accept the invite. 👐🏾

Rooted in tradition, rhythm, and memory, each part of the evening invited us to PAUSE — and truly LISTEN — to ourselves, to each other, and to the city. 👂🏾

Entering through the physical artifacts of Newark and surrounded by the sounds of Newark industrial, political, and musical heritage. 🚂 🗳️ 🎧

We shared a grounding sound bath with @rightontimetay, a new twist on the family-style meal prepared by @theyardnewark, and @_gonzalosilva closed the evening with a vinyl set mixing our legends into current viral sounds.

🔊 “What is a Newark artifact that should be preserved?”
💬 One guest offered: “The recipes and the old pots — those old pots are artifacts that important parts of family gatherings and our cultural heritage.”
