Shadow Geometry I, 2024 Print on 2 sheets of Frosted Greencast Acrylic with Stainless Steel Brackets 100 × 90 cm Available @blackbird_rook New wall based works, print edition and music projects in development, emerging from past works & previous iterations. The starting points sequenced here were an edition of social distancing screens originally made for the @daisygreencollection during the pandemic, followed by the large installation ‘Alternative Arrangements’ across the glass facade at Beany Green in the city. Enjoying the cyclical process of revisiting these pieces as new works begin to mutate and unfold from them, informed now by alternate contexts and new collaborations. More to come shortly on a new release with Ben Lancaster @synthesissoundarchive and forthcoming print collaboration with @alan_mcfetridge for the Centre for Ecological Philosophy on the excellent new @metalabel_ platform

Marilyn Hallam DOMUS MEUS Paintings from 1984 to 2016 22.11.24 - 09.02.25 Paul Smith Space, 9 Albemarle St. London W1S 4BL “Going into the studio, I could wish that, after all these years, I had a system or fail­safe mechanism that would allow me to execute daily portions of work in a finite and cumulative manner. However … I am always glad that I do not have this safety-net, though I am slow and timid without it.” (Marilyn Hallam 1998) At a time when the visual arts can seem dominated by populism and the cult of personality, it is startling to find an artist talking about her work with such naked honesty. This determined rejection of a reliance on habituation or a repertoire of manners, is likewise true of the work itself. One consequence is that each painting comes as a surprise, each with its own resolution of convincing pictorial identity. Another is that, despite Hallam’s doubts, the continuity which unifies this oeuvre has the strength of a steel cable, marked by a series of works of impressive conviction... Cuillin Bantock

Born on this day the great @clydehopkinsartist (1946-2018) an innovative and brilliant painter and educator. "One of the great qualities of Hopkins’ new paintings, as i see them, is to have abandoned the particularly English problem of whether abstract art needs to be in some painterly relation to landscape.  He has decided it would be better to avoid the term entirely.  On the contrary it is through recollections of Dali, Miro, even Picasso, that the artist has remembered how the sun can sharpen the shadows, heat the landscape, and probably addle the brains.  Are we madder or saner now?
