Happy Samhain, boils and ghouls! We have a very special Halloween treat for you all! @spellcast_pictures would like to officially welcome Nathan Baesel @nbaesel to the cast of @oddcompellingtales

For the last 7 years we’ve been conjuring this story. Piece by piece—tale by tale—seed by seed. And though it’s been a harrowing journey into darkness, the flame is lit. The vessel is hollow. It is time. As we wait for the last remaining pieces to fall into place, we now have our horror maestro of the macabre, Mr. Pleasant.

Our spells have been cast. Our sacrifices made. Next Halloween, production begins on Odd Compelling Tales as the soil of Black Creek runs red with the blood of the innocent. And though we still have a long, winding path ahead—the flame of Hellfire guides our way.

Happy Halloween 🎃

Introducing the founder of Spellcast Pictures, Santino Ferrese

Santino is a multi award winning makeup fx artist/writer/producer and lifelong monster kid. Since attending his first horror convention at the young age of 4, Santino found kindred spirits amongst the ghosts and ghouls. That passion lead him to Hollywood in 2016 where he has worked his craft on projects such as Star Trek: Discovery, Guardians of the Galaxy 3, and Del Toro’s highly anticipated remake of Frankenstein.

Santino is ready to cast some spells over the horror genre and inject a unique mix of mischief and madness. ✨

Meet Ichabod, my newest sculpture for @immortalmasks 🎃

October 31st, 1821
Young teacher, Ichabod walked alone after a night of festivities at the town’s yearly autumn festival. Drunkenly he made his way down the dark, dirt road when he was overcome with the strange sensation of being followed. Hopeful it was the beautiful daughter of the great Judge Crowley chasing behind asking for one last dance, Ichabod stopped to listen. Hoping his lusting lips would be met with a kiss, he waited in anticipation.

Silence. Realizing his foolishness, Ichabod continued toward home. He would need to win her affection another day but the fantasy was a pleasant companion on his walk. Lost in thought, Ichabod continued until the faint sounds of whistling penetrated his ears. It was a tune so beautiful and hypnotizing, he stopped dead in his tracks and turned, coming face to face with…

Well, if you believe the tale, Ichabod met the pale face of the Devil, himself. There, the Devil offered Katherine’s love and devotion in exchange for Ichabod’s servitude. Maybe it was the spirits bubbling around inside his brain but Ichabod agreed. He signed his name in blood as the Devil smiled, slipping the contract inside his pocket. Ichabod then asked “what service shall I provide, my lord”. The Devil said nothing but placed a knife in Ichabod’s hand.

Under the harvest moon, Ichabod unwillingly began carving into his face with the serrated blade of the Devil’s knife. Chunks of flesh ripped away, falling to the ground. Crows from the nearby pumpkin patch began to scavenge up the gore. Ichabod collapsed in a pool of blood and tears as he gazed at the stars. As the life began to slip from his eyes, Katherine emerged from the darkness, drunk with passion.

All Ichabod could do was begin to laugh which turned to a blood soaked cackle as he died. Distraught at the sight, Katherine dragged Ichabod’s lifeless body into the pumpkin patch, allowing his remains to be taken over by the earth. As the vines consumed his corpse, Katherine made a promise to return every Halloween and dance with the spirit of her lost love. A promise she kept for a lifetime.

Grateful and honored that our 48hr short was received so well at @48hourfilmla this weekend. Thank you to the team at 48hr Film LA for putting on such a classy event and providing an wonderful venue to screen everyone’s work. Making a film in 48hr is no easy task and I was amazed at all of the awesome films and talented filmmakers we screened with. We were grateful to take home best film, audience pick, best directing, best cinematography, best actress, best editing, and best sound design. Thank you to @sffxstudios @spellcast_pictures for bringing me along to direct for another spooky ride. Congrats on the first official Spell Cast production! Thank you to @_jessegallagher for organizing and bringing us all together. And a major thank you to one man band cinematographer @gardellafella for killing it behind the camera and editing and sound designing with me on no sleep and an insane time crunch. And thank you to @sydney_janelle who had never pulled focus before, learned the night before we shot and absolutely killed it with some very difficult pulls. And thank you to @wyatt_delta22 for coming on and acting while recording sound at the same time like a true sound bro 😎 and @dang.it.nathan who created a color lut for us last min. A tiny but mighty crew ❤️
