‼️EXCLUSIVE‼️

Just a few weeks ago, Akil Saud “Bird” Batani-Khalfani was killed in a hit-and-run in South Los Angeles. For weeks, his daughter D’Ixara Batani-Khalfani and her family had no answers about who took him from them, in part because there were no license plate reading cameras in the area where it happened.

This week, D’Ixara joined @Angelarye on Cite Your Source to share her father’s story and advocate for access to footage, so other families don’t have to wait in the dark the way hers did.

We’re grateful to share a BREAKING NEWS update: this week, D’Ixara and her family finally got answers. A suspect has been arrested in connection with her father’s death.

We’re holding Mr. Batani-Khalfani’s memory and his family close. Tune into Episode 3 of Cite Your Source, streaming now on YouTube, to hear D’Ixara’s story in her own words and more about mass surveillance in this country.

LOS ANGELES, CA — The family of Akil Batani-Khalfani, affectionately known throughout Los Angeles as “Bird,” will hold a press conference demanding immediate justice following his death at the hands of a hit-and-run driver on September 30, 2026.
