Lasting Marriage Tip:

Marriage is 90% figuring out what to eat for dinner.

Nobody warned you about this part.

You didn’t vow to love, honor, and cherish. You vowed to love, honor, and answer the question “what sounds good tonight?” approximately 14,000 times over the course of your lifetime together.

“I don’t know, what do you want?”
“I asked you first.”
“I’m good with whatever.”
“Okay but not that, not that, and definitely not that.”
“Fine, we’ll just figure it out.”

Thirty minutes later… still standing in the kitchen. Still starving. Still negotiating.

Welcome to marriage.

Here’s the truth nobody tells you. The strongest marriages aren’t the ones who always know the answer. They’re the ones who can laugh their way through the daily “what’s for dinner” showdown without losing their minds.

Pro tips from the trenches:

Have a go-to list of 5 restaurants so you stop pretending there are new options.
When in doubt, pizza or tacos.
“I’m not that hungry” is a trap. Do not fall for it. They are hungry.
If one of you suggests cereal for dinner, marry them harder.

Because at the end of the day, love isn’t just the big romantic moments. It’s standing in the pantry at 7pm, both of you staring blankly at the shelves, laughing because somehow this is still the hardest decision of the day.

Marriage is beautiful.
Marriage is sacred.
Marriage is also… “babe, I literally cannot make one more decision today, you pick.”

Keep laughing. Keep ordering. Keep choosing each other. 🍔 🍕🌮❤️

Weekend update: GOD IS ON THE MOVE!

Such a joy and blessing to travel to Grand Rapids over the weekend to visit our son Max and to witness God on the move in so many beautiful ways.

I saw God on the move in hugs, conversations, laughter, walks, shared meals with my sweet boy and his lovely girlfriend. God is on the move in relationships.

I saw God on the move in time with my husband holding hands, sharing an umbrella, cheering each other on during our runs, chatting about what we’re hearing from God. God is on the move in marriages.

I saw God on the move in the beauty of plants and flowers and in the ways He inspires us to be creative. God is on the move in creation and creativity.

I saw God on the move at church. God is on the move when we talk to Him, draw close to Him, worship Him, gather as communities.

That’s how I saw God on the move this weekend. The good news? He’s on the move everyday, everywhere–during your convos and relationships and work and play and adventures and routines.

Where have you seen God on the move this week?

The jury is in! We’ve done the research… and here are the results! My top 5 smash burgers in GR.

@blacknapkingr -probably best all around, lots of options, all are top tier
@thelittlebirdgr -maybe unexpected but their wagyu smashburger burger is one of the best in the city
@onestopconey -I think their smashburger rivals Black Napkin, but not quite so many fancy options (since they serve more than just burgers)
@twoguysbrewing -A top tier smashburger, the freshest tasting ingredients!
@lostartbrewhouse - Another top tier smashburger, with lots of burger options as well!

What do you think? Are these the best Grand Rapids has to offer?
