Black History Month event hosted @shopbreamall

What a privilege it was to lead a regenerative yoga flow for our local community of yogis. It was such a pleasure to be apart of this historical moment, to be appreciated for my Blackness, Latinidad and the diversity that I bring to the OC yoga community is such a blessing. To be highlighted and lifted up is what black folks need during these politically tumultuous times. It was so beautiful to see people from various cultural backgrounds support us in our fight for freedom, equality and justice.

The 3rd annual @agreatdayinthestoke - the largest gathering of Black surfers in history, is happening on Saturday, September 14.

This year’s event features a full day of complimentary family-friendly activities, including a surfing competition featuring male and female pro and amateur surfers representing the US, Brazil, Senegal, South Africa, and Jamaica. The winners will receive @breitling_usa watches valued at $5k each.

Also, free surf lessons, a @Lululemon-sponsored wellness zone featuring beach yoga, a 5K race in the morning, and other beachy activities. The day will also include live music and a DJ culminating in an awards ceremony honoring trailblazing Black surfing pioneers who have made significant contributions to the sport.

Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI brittle bones disease), being stared at because he's disabled in in a wheelchair, discriminated against because he's black, lack of finances, countless surgeries, colon cancer survivor, losing his eyesight caused by glaucoma, not knowing his biological father, having an alcoholic stepfather, raised by his mother who was a single parent before she passed away, loneliness in a crowded room, a fatal car accident, jumping out of his cousins two-story window to escape hot flames/unable to breathe, bouts of depression, suicidal thoughts, mental/emotional abuse, raised on the poor side of the tracks in alabama, having a brother with cerebral palsy, attending special ed classes (finishing his school work first then becoming bored), drinking alcohol, dealing with his drug problem (drug to church by his mother), thinking for years that his dad did not love him, for over 20 years rolling quickly in the opposite direction then from his assignment from God to mentor young men, while refusing to accept the title of minister, waking up in 1981 totally paralyzed from the neck down, his fear of not waking up the next morning after hearing a specialist till his family he might not live to see his 18th birthday, falsely accused of breaking a store window by white neighborhood watch individuals, his first marriage ending in divorce, genealogist results doubting he'd ever father his own children (read the entire story in his book, "Humble Grace Love"). Based on the confession of Gregory's faith in God's Mercy that's new each morning, forgiveness, Amazing Grace that's more than sufficient to complete God's great work within him, promises, what he's already been through, nothing shall separate him from the love of God, through Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior. The question remains, what about you?
