my dutch son

I forget that Wyatt has only been with me for less than 9 months, and only taking bitework & obedience more seriously since the summer

Plus some gastro issues that put us on hold (but all better now!!)

I’m so proud of the dog you are and becoming Wywy❤️‍🔥

Thank you @blairlowe14 for working him!

What a jump it is from the 1’s to the 2’s! So much more to put together, the work gets harder and the pieces get bigger, but I’m really looking forward to seeing what Rey brings to the table as we keep propelling forward.⚡️🧸🤎

A weekend to be proud of, with so many people to thank!

Thank you @sk9_psa for hosting such an amazing trial. It was especially meaningful to bring our girls back to home turf, and an honour to share the trial field with the Zuko family.

Thank you to our judges @sroberts1731 & @kim.cerio.canine for your fairness and consistency throughout the weekend.

To all of the trial decoys, thank you for your hard work and safe catches. @aus_ave @bitenowoutlater @tytrainsdogs @joe_pecker @abraham_pena @captain_america_decoy @deadpool_decoy

Thank you @notyourstandardschnauzers & @jasdk9 for your continued support, guidance, and training advice.

Thank you to our club @eh.psa for always being in our corner, on and off the field.

And a special thank you to our training decoys @camdal4 @bellatrixk9 @sharpbulldog for all the time and effort you’ve invested in us and our dogs. And to all the decoys who have helped us along the way — we couldn’t have done this without you.

Long Read

So Saturday and Sunday, Hammi and I took the field at the Redline PSA trial.

This was our first time trialing in well over a year. I took that time to clean things up, work with a ton of great people, and really try to perfect everything. Going in, I honestly felt good about where we were.

Well... Hammi had other plans.

Day 1 started great. The entire obedience routine was smooth and I honestly couldn't have been happier. Then came the item retrieve, and instead of doing the exercise, Hammi decided biting one of the decoys in the leg was the better option. Something I truly didn't think would happen, and we got the DQ.

Going into Day 2, I was prepared to handle that situation differently if I needed to. Anyone who knows Hammi knows he is definitely not a two-day dog, but at that point I wanted to get my first leg.

Obedience wasn't pretty and wasn't the score I wanted, but we passed.

On to protection. It started with a call off, which has honestly been sexy in training. But standing at the start cone, I could feel the wheels starting to fall off. After going the wrong way out of the car and heading toward the photographer and videographer, I got him back, sent him, and managed to salvage the points.

Then it was time to let Hammi smash the decoy.

No sleeve. No bite. No reward.

Just commitment.

Muzzle fighting tests a dog’s willingness to engage, stay present under pressure, and continue driving forward without the satisfaction of a grip.
