As part of the partnership, we recently hosted two events across Lalor and Watsonia Libraries, bringing writers and our communities together through poetry, storytelling and conversation.

We were joined by @dakotafeirer , author of Arsenic Flower, at Lalor Library, and @tony_birch_writer (The White Girl), @clairegcoleman (Terra Nullius) and J. M. Field @so.said.red (The Eagle and the Crow) at Watsonia Library, in a conversation chaired by @_jamesparr.

This video captures some of what happened at Watsonia.

Partnerships like this help us create space for First Nations voices and perspectives, while connecting our communities with contemporary Australian writers and their work.

Explore the featured authors and their books through the YPRL catalogue.

Volunteering for both @blakandbright and @emergingwriters has been an incredible experience this month. Met so many new friends, saw some fantastic stories from incredible artists and had an absolute blast!

What an honour it was to attend the @blakandbright festival and volunteer with the @amplifybookstore 🫶 Thank you to all the speakers for sharing your wisdom with us! Your books deserve to be on every shelf and I am so grateful we have such a superb selection of First Nations books to read 🤗

I'm so glad we got to finally meet in person after being friends for so long @littleredwrites 😍 Next time, I'm buying you a whole stack of pancakes and whatever it is your heart desires! 🥞 Also loved meeting @elisutherlandwrites 🫡 Clearly Mel has superb taste in friends!

Excited also to see @dranitaheiss again! You never fail to make me laugh 😂 Genuinely you might be one of the wittiest, funniest writers I know!

Thank you also to @garylonesborough.author and @lenorathaker for signing my copies of your beautiful novels ✨️ I can't wait to fall in love with your books!

Finally, thank you to everyone who attended and bought books from us! You're supporting not only the incredible writers but also an indie bookstore that specialises in books by people of colour ✨️ Which, if the last few weeks (months, years) have taught us anything, we need now more than ever! YAY AMPLIFY BOOKSTORE 🎉

It was a pleasure to speak to Rachel Bin Salleh, Jared Thomas and Anita Heiss about the state of First Nations publishing in this country at @blakandbright. Three people that have had such an impact on storytelling and the story of this place. Forever grateful for their work.

I don't think there's been any other festival experience that felt like digging into the earth and finding ancient roots. I was called upon by strangers' loving mothers, and grandmothers, and welcomed into seats beside them. Booksellers and merch sellers were warm in their conversation. I even met the event organiser who was much too humble.

And I managed to spend money that I didn't have, but I was worried I would regret it if I didn't.

Everyone who came my way all asked the same question: "What brought you here today?"

What a provoking question!

Nothing but the love of stories, except I didn't say that. I had a boring answer. I'm a writer wanting to connect more with the writing scene.

What I saw wasn't the writing scene. It was community. It was family. And it was queer as fuck ♥️💛🖤 ❤️‍🔥

Shoutout to @blakandbright for the invite down to Every:When.
I am absolutely humbled to have been asked to chair a panel featuring the phenomenal authors Tasma Walton, Melissa Lucashenko, Jared Thomas and Bruce Pascoe.

That one will stay with me for a long time.
