•Kiwi picking in the North island•

It’s been a little while since we moved down to the South Island and started working on a dairy farm (more on that soon!), but our first job in New Zealand was actually kiwi picking in the North Island. And that was definitely an experience to say the least.

Kiwi picking is a big seasonal job here in the North Island, mostly in the Bay of Plenty region, and they usually start harvesting around late March/early April until late June. We lived up in Tauranga and mainly worked around Te Puke, which is known as the kiwi capital of the world. We picked gold and green kiwis while we were there.

🥝Fun fact: there’s also a red kiwi type!

It’s a very weather dependent job, so if it rains or the fruit is wet, then there’s no work. And the organisation of the company we worked for wasn’t always great😅

We did struggle with this because the work wasn’t always a guarantee which is not ideal. But it wasn’t all bad, the people we met here made the job a lot more fun☺️

Compartir casa, comidas, risas, historias, días buenos y días no tan buenos... y crear vínculos tan bonitos estando tan lejos de casa.
