Death to the Old Me

Today, I bury the version
that learned survival by shrinking,
that mistook silence for peace
and endurance for strength.

Death to the old me
who apologized for taking up space,
who negotiated with discomfort
and called it compromise.

Lay to rest the self
who loved with empty hands,
who stayed where they were tolerated,
who confused familiarity with safety.

This is not a violent ending.
It is a sacred one.

I grieve the old me
because they carried me this far through rooms I was never meant to stay in,
through lessons I didn’t know were shaping me.

But growth demands a funeral.

So I shed the habits that kept me small,
the fears that spoke louder than my voice,
the identities built from other people’s expectations.

From this soil, I rise
unrecognizable, unapologetic, awake.

The new me does not beg to be chosen.
They choose themselves.

They honor rest.
They honor truth.
They honor boundaries like holy ground.

Death to the old me and birth to the one
who knows their worth without asking permission to exist.

THIS IS 35
NO MORE PLAYING FAIR
