We are ecstatic to present this week’s Alumni Feature with Donna Mena, a 2020 graduate of CCA’s Master of Advanced Architectural Design (MAAD) Program with a concentration in Urban Works. Donna is currently a full-time freelancer (donnamena.com) exploring a range of interests through a variety of commissioned and self-initiated projects.

What was your favorite thing about being a student at CCA?
I loved learning in an art school. I was given the space and opportunity to explore different mediums and be creative in how I represent my studies. CCA encouraged me to explore my creative voice without fear. It gave me the space to push forward and explore my artistic side with confidence.

What are you doing now, and how did CCA prepare you for your current role?
I recently transitioned into full-time freelancing, which has afforded me the freedom to balance my professional career with personal projects. One such endeavor is SCARF-SCARF—a three-year-old passion project where I merge my loves for graphic design, architecture, and object creation into whimsical scarf creations. This passion project has led to contracting opportunities and even a future book, SCARF-SCARF The BOOK-BOOK! The networking I was able to do at CCA allowed me to connect with folks I’m working with now. It’s amazing how little moments can sometimes lead to something bigger.
