HEMOXIAN ARKHAM KNIGHT

Where do I begin with this one. It was such an involved kit, with different materials, photo etched parts, LEDs, and building it was a real feat of labour. Very unlike assembling a gunpla figure.

But it looks great once completed, with incredible parts separation and a reasonable price tag.

The mech-style design isn't for everyone, but I like it. With those blue and red colors and the Bat ears, it looks like something Optimus or the Autobots helped Batman put together.

I hope you enjoy this one.

AOTP Swindle finally arrived this weekend. My mainline Combaticons are together and complete at last.

When I was a kid I had a hand-me-down G1 Onslaught missing all the combiner parts, as well as an equally incomplete Vortex. Brawl, Swindle and Blast-Off were entirely absent. I recall that some years later, I acquired a G2 Blast-Off. A lot of good that lone re-deco did!

Fast forward a decade or so, and I bought the Takara boxed Energon Bruticus. On hindsight I can honestly say it was atrocious even for its time. I eventually got the Fans Project upgrade kit, which had some very nice Bruticus parts but essentially rescued the combined mode by replacing 50% of everything. The experience soured me off mainline combiners for a long time, and I skipped Combiner Wars Bruticus altogether.

I was a skeptic of this newest format as it was first presented in the form of Menasor, but admittedly the designs and proportions of Superion and now especially Bruticus won me over. And I’m happy I decided to embark on this side quest in my collecting journey.

Yes, I have bought the DNA upgrade set for Superion, and I have already gotten replacement hands for Bruticus. But still, you can’t deny these modernised Combaticons look pretty good together and combined.

I call this a win.

Custom Silver/Bronze Age Aquaman

Ever since I picked up the Mafex Knightfall Azrael, I knew the unmasked Jean Paul Valley head made for a perfect Silver/Bronze Age Aquaman. After all, Arthur Curry should be a Graeco-Roman conception of a sea god rather than a long-haired surfer dude.

So I decided to get the V2 Mafex Lost Kingdom Aquaman and use this as the base body. The only problem was that the neck peg was too big for the socket of Azrael's head.

I spent some time carefully shaving it down with an exacto and finessing it until it fit. I think it works pretty well.

So here's my contribution for #toymercscustomsunday and I hope you like it too.
