Motivation in Wake Oil, puffy paint, felt, ribbon and poly-fill on canvas roll 26” x 53” x 2” ——— I got my associates degree in the summer of 2022, afterwards I took a break from school to keep myself completely free from any responsibility outside of taking care of my mom. I always said my plan was to get my bachelors once I got my associates, so in 2023 I knew the only thing that could help me find purpose in myself once again would be to go back to school. The road back to school was confusing, especially since I am a first-gen, I had no one to help me. Though after endless meetings with CSN and UNLV advisors I was enrolled to the BA program at UNLV. Here I found a community who uplifted me and encouraged me to push forward with my art. The two people I decided to paint is Azul and geo, because of their impact on me and my journey in art. Both of these artists were in the BFA program with me, where we grew insanely close to one another. We bonded over creating, researching and empowering each other to be true to ourselves in both our practice and way of being. They have left a mark on me forever and I thank them so deeply for being a shoulder to lean on and cheerleader to hype me up throughout my accomplishments. PC 📸 : UzU ( @theboifromthe408 )

I don’t usually do this publicly - I’ve been selected as a finalist for The People’s Artist, presented by Johnny Depp—and for the first time, the outcome isn’t decided behind closed doors. It’s decided in the open… by people. 😅 If you’ve followed my work, you know I tend to move in silence when it comes to fine art competitions—submitting privately, letting the work speak to appointed jurors. This is different. It challenges me to be visible, to share something I’ve typically kept close; to face my fears. Voting this Monday, May 4 at 10 AM PDT. Vote via link in bio. As a multidisciplinary artist rooted in contemporary sculptural jewelry, my work explores abstraction, ancient symbolism, and the unseen threads that connect us. A few of the pieces included in this slideshow span years of that exploration—from past to present. Stepping into this kind of visibility is outside my comfort zone—but community has always been at the heart of what I do. So I’m choosing to trust that. To show up fully, and to believe that those who resonate with my work will feel called to support it. 🙏🏼 I’ll be sharing reminders as we get closer to voting day, as well as process videos of jewelry and artwork I’ve created from past to present. Thank you for being here—for seeing me, and for being part of this. More soon. In the slideshow, you will see a few of the artwork submitted that earned my spot as a finalist. Feel free to visit the my competition profile to see the rest! #ThePeoplesArtist #ContemporaryJewelry #SculpturalJewelry #EmergingArtist #ArtWithMeaning

MEET AZUL My art is a love letter to all of the things I have and will experience.. a testament of the human psyche. Psychology intersects with colorful modernisms and traditional art techniques to create a collection of experiences that unfold into a self-defined style known as “bleutrash.” My work delves into both the conscious and subconscious through portraiture and self-portraiture, revealing the darker aspects of the mind that often make us uncomfortable. I draw from historical elements, with influences ranging from Italian Renaissance oil paintings to Indigenous ideologies and beliefs. Knowledge and research are essential to my practice making literature, history, politics, and culture pillars of my foundation. My work consists of personal themes ranging from unnatural behavior processes, such as destructive coping mechanisms in abusive relationships, to exploring the parallels of sociopathic and trauma response behaviors. The processes of contact, absorption, and transformation happen infinitely, resulting in what I call “bleutrash.” with love, Azul Come see their work at EXODIUM! 🗓️ May 1, 2026 📍 Donna Beam Art Gallery (UNLV) ⏰ 5–8 PM To learn more about this artist, check out their Instagram & website! @bleutrash bleutrash.com
