Ensconced in the midst of unfathomable beauty with like-minded souls, all trying to find the words…if there’s a greater gift a writer can receive I don’t know what it is.

Thank you, InSitu.

Sunday! At Unicorn Bar! DATURA is Obie-Award-winning writer-performer Amanda Duarte serving anecdotes & antidotes spanning from pre-pandemic to the future —from throwing stones to talking to them, from dating dads to drug-infused Doritos to divine feminine disclosure on a mountain, from tech asses to Aztecs, from mind-control machines to monarch butterflies. An evening of filthy, sacred literary cabaret that is not to be missed! SUNDAY, OCTOBER 4
6PM DOORS
6:30PM SHOW
$20 ADV/$25 DOOR (Link in bio) “Duarte… has long occupied a singular niche in the Downtown Manhattan performance world, blending comedy, political satire, theater, confessional monologue, and cabaret into a style that feels both deeply literary and gloriously unhinged.” - Brian Mahoney, Chronogram
Another fabulous comedy event presented by Beth Lisick and Jodi Lennon, the duo who brought laughs to Ulster County with their More Than A Feeling Comedy Festival in Saugerties, Unitard’s Holiday On Thin Ice in Kingston, Eric Drysdale’s Time Travel Adventure in West Hurley and Our Reservoir Hour variety shows in West Hurley.

One Albatross at a Time - a wee video series

Pressing mute on tasks distances me from me

My albatrosses. They aren’t heavy around my neck in the physical-weight sense because they are, you know, ethereal.

Instead, they ring themselves around my movements, thoughts, choices, self-worth, internal trust, external trust, interactions throughout the day.

I made a long list and started calling my weight of albatrosses (yes, “weight” is one of their grouping monikers. Aiyee!) up from my unconscious. I blinked guttural tears at the sight. I witnessed them choking the oxygen from the life I really want to live. There are so many, and so many more still being added to the list on the regular.

The tears, though, are good. Mostly, for this year, I have been numb. A numb numb dum dum. I am on one side of a deep cavern, and on the other side is a part of me I cannot reach. How do I reach it? How will I come together again?

I hide them in part because I do not want to be a burden to anyone. That’s not a way to isolate myself or anything is it? No. Not. At. All.

When I am alone, I spend much of my time doing things that take me out of the present moment. Oh geesh. As I write this, I can clearly see the cavern is not a cavern at all. It’s an underworld. I am a card-carrying member of the Dissociation Association in an underworld of my own creation.

So videoing them and freeing them one at a time seems like a way to dispel them before I slip them once again into dissociation. I guess I am trying to feel things?

A few months back I started this little video of what I-aimed-to-be-a-weekly-series about my albatrosses. The video above is number two. You get it.

I have received many notes of thoughtful feedback from the first two videos. People relating. Thank you for that. Let’s explore the underworld and be present together.

Next week... another albatross freed and some cool shit I discovered them.

@tammy_rae took some of the best photos of @blisick and me of all time!! When she had a bunch in a show at Yerba Buena in San Francisco, she asked if we could be docents. YBCA refused to pay us, but we decided to do it anyway because we love TRC!! It was a glorious night we finished by clearing the dance floor. Still available to lead art tours (or any kind of tour).

Coco en route to draw some alien romance 👽👉👌go see @trans.movie tomorrow in sf in honor of the two Bay Area bred babes in this film: me & @blisick !!! Beth and I discovered on our overnight shoot we were both raised in San Jose and both found our way to NY and now found ourselves in a random common area at a Catholic dorm in Connecticut at 4am. To keep ourselves awake, the cast played a game where we had to go into our notes app to find a prompt to mime out (theatre kid shiiii) and Beth immediately found this note in her phone from 2019 (last slide) and it really reinforced the whole kismet connection of this film. Flash forward two years, I adopt a dog named Coco and the film makes its debut!!! idk maybe it’s spiritual psychosis but I’ll take what I can get in this world ✨🫶💕🤯 highly recommend if you have read this far and are from the Bay to read Beth’s book, “Edie on the Green Screen” and keep the SYSKAM lore going!!! My mother will be in attendance if you would like to talk to her about her 90’s 2000’s pieces I wear in the movie xoxoxo sof
