As a community leader, Reggy catalyzes solutions to address food insecurity and land inequity. His initiative Fridgeport has installed community fridges in New Haven, Hartford, Waterbury & Bridgeport that are available 24/7, feeding roughly 1,200 neighbors a week.

Through Sovereign Land Trust, he’s helping BIPOC farmers break down barriers to land stewardship so they can access land and build generational wealth. “Food is the unifier, a universal language.”

Vetiveah Immanuel is a regenerative agriculture nutritionist, food justice advocate, speaker, and community leader.

Her newest venture, Radiance Gardens, empowers communities with knowledge to grow their own food and uplifts their voice to create equitable food access and sovereignty in New London. Ve also co-founded the Liberated Land Cooperative, a Black and Brown farmer-led organization that grows culturally relevant produce for food-insecure communities in CT.

After the pair noticed they were the only two Black farmers in their training program, Shawn & Rich set out to change the image of farming. Park City Harvest, founded in 2017, offers reduced-cost CSA shares with weekly produce pick-ups June through October, and educates urban youth on how food shapes health, community, and environment. Their motto: farming for financial freedom.

A Trinidad-born chef and CEO, Kashia founded KD Gastronomy Consulting in 2022, where she partners with CT school districts on culturally relevant recipes, empowers families, and addresses homelessness through sustainable and impactful food solutions.

Kashia, Executive Chef for Middletown Public Schools, previously led the youth-focused culinary education nonprofit My City Kitchen, which she founded in 2009.

It is Connecticut Agriculture Week!

We are recognizing the contribution of agriculture in our everyday lives.
Connecticut is home to 5,000 farm operations, working 370,000 acres from the ground to the Sound, and employing 30,000 people in our state. Most significantly, agriculture generates $4 billion dollars for our state's economy.

Here is how you can make a difference during Ag Week:

Seek out CT Grown products: Visit a farm store, farm stand, farmers' market, or restaurant that offers locally grown food and farm products.

Engage in Agritourism: Pick-your-own activities abound throughout the state spanning multiple seasons from Maple weekend (March 15-16), tulips and daffodils in the spring, to berries throughout the summer, apples and pumpkins in the fall, and Christmas Trees in the winter, plus farm wineries open year round. Now is the time to start planning your next adventure.

Thank a Farmer: Already supporting local agriculture? Show your appreciation by writing a thank you note, posting on social media, or sharing your story of how local farmers positively impact your life.

Together, we can support Connecticut's agricultural community and strengthen our state's economy. Visit CTGrown.org to discover how you can engage with Connecticut's farms and make CT Grown your way of life.

Thank you to all CT farmers!!

Bought this tea for my mom! If you are aware of me as a person, you know I don't drink tea.

My mom, on the other hand, loves Hibiscus, and when I got up, she told me she loved the tea.
I love the smell of the tea itself. But what's stands out to me is the paper packing. It is sustainable and recyclable.

How did she make it? She boiled and strained it. This is the Hibiscus Lemon Balm lavender tea. Please check out Blissful Awakening LLC.

Lets support small women owned businesses this month.

It's not too late to register for A Tale of Two Counties! Please join us tomorrow night at CoCreate in Stamford for what will be a thoughtful and important conversation around food insecurity in Fairfield County. The event is free, Spanish translation provided and all are welcome! Registration and details in the BIO linktree.

A Tale of Two Counties: Addressing Food Insecurity in Fairfield County through Community Empowerment, will engage food systems changemakers who lead and advocate for community-based initiatives working to make food, land and watersheds accessible to all Fairfield County residents. Moderated by Simone Quartey, Director of Center for Equity & Justice at YWCA Greenwich, the discussion will explore how the data around wealth and health disparities is underpinned by systemic barriers to nourishing, culturally resonate and place-based food. Panelists will unpack these barriers and the ways in which they contribute to the unprecedented levels of food insecurity in Fairfield County.

Food insecurity is a complex issue with several interrelated factors. Communities most impacted are leading the way with effective systemic solutions as they strengthen connectivity, build trusted relationships and foster a collective vision towards food as a human right. Panelists will share their experience and knowledge around what a just, equitable and nourishing food system means through the lens of philanthropy, policy, health, narrative and grassroots organizing.

A Tale of Two Counties is a sequel to A Tale of Two Towns: Addressing Food Insecurity in Greenwich, held in October 2023 at Greenwich Town Hall.
