Opening Soon! Narsiso Martinez Eat Happy 969 CHUNG KING ROAD SEPTEMBER 25 - NOVEMBER 7, 2026 OPENING RECEPTION: SEPTEMBER 25, 5-8PM and Food and Beyond, Beyond Food Curated by Narsiso Martinez 969 CHUNG KING ROAD SEPTEMBER 25 - NOVEMBER 7, 2026 OPENING RECEPTION: SEPTEMBER 25, 5-8PM Charlie James Gallery is proud to present new works by Narsiso Martinez in Eat Happy, the artist’s fourth solo exhibition with the gallery. Martinez is best known for his powerful portraits of farmworkers rendered on discarded produce boxes collected from grocery stores, which he transforms into evocative, layered compositions. His work draws from the visual language of 1930s Social Realism, updated through a contemporary lens and materials that speak to both economic precarity and cultural resilience. Before earning his BFA and MFA with honors from Cal State Long Beach, Martinez worked in the agricultural fields of Washington state for nine seasons — a formative experience that directly informs his practice. The show will be supported by Food and Beyond, Beyond Food, a group exhibition that connects four female artists from different cultural backgrounds through the idea of food and nourishment. Curated by Narsiso Martinez, the show features works by Andrea Bersaglieri, Ashley Jose-Isip, Jessy Slim, and Karen Tepaz. The show will run concurrently with Narsiso Martinez’s solo exhibition “Eat Happy”. @narsisomartinez #narsisomartinez @ever.a.k.a.thegirlabouttown @blissone @laarthandler @sonidodelvalle #charliejamesgallery @_slimfactory @k_tepaz @andi_bers #ashleyjoseisip

Opening tonight July 24th from 5-8pm! Cosecha Curated by Ever Velasquez 969 CHUNG KING ROAD JULY 24 - AUGUST 29, 2026 OPENING RECEPTION: JULY 24, 5-8PM Charlie James Gallery is pleased to present Cosecha, a group show honoring the resilience and power that grows from cultivating community from the seeds of adversity, of looking to each other and recognizing the flourishing that is possible within each individual. The works in Consecha all deal with the idea of labor, and specifically the immigrant and working-class labor that is foundational to our economic ecosystem. These artists explore the branching connections between labor, immigration, and the economy that lead to specific experiences of immigrant life. Often, the works reflect a tendency to romanticize obstacles in order to survive, following the old proverb of reaping what you sow. Despite the often-dire circumstances of the present moment—ICE raids, wars, kidnappings—Consecha gathers artists who choose to wake up every morning and thrive by being in community with one another, recognizing the land as it flourishes, and resisting systems of oppression. Exhibiting Artists: Eva Aguila Miguel Arzabe Jay Bell Rachid Bouhamidi Camila Buxeda Andrea Castillo Salvador de la Torre Oscar Eduardo de Paz Tristan Esmino Sharif Farrag Rubén Esparza Daniela García Hamilton Melissa Govea Patrick Dean Hubbell Kristen Huizar Sierra Love Álvaro D. Opening this Friday evening 5-8pm! Estefania Ajcip Folded Memories 961 CHUNG KING ROAD JULY 10 - AUGUST 22, 2026 OPENING RECEPTION: FRIDAY JULY 10, 5-8PM Charlie James Gallery is pleased to present Folded Memories, an exhibition of new works by Los Angeles-based artist Estefania Ajcip, her first with the gallery. Ajcip explores memory, connection, family, and the ways these intersect with and are affected by the immigrant experience. Ajcip’s wall-based, three-dimensional works invite viewers to step into her half-remembered, half-imagined worlds, in which she examines the physical and emotional landscapes of her own childhood split between Guatemala and Los Angeles. Often based on old family photos, the paintings unfold themselves into the space of the gallery, tracing the shapes of the yearning and dreaming that defined the artist’s upbringing.
