BLKOUT Walls Mural Festival was conceived by Sydney G. James, Thomas Detour Evans, and Max Sansing as a direct response to their shared experiences.

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

I remember being an energetic 9 year old, when my dad picked me from school. In his hand he held a cassette tape, and he said, “I want you to hear something”.

He slid the tape into the tape deck and turned up the volume. I was instantly entranced by the beat and started dancing in my seat. Then, I heard the silky, rich sound of 5 young voices. My dad turned to me and said, “This is going to be the next hit, and these kids are going to be the hottest group out of Boston”.

He was right. The catalog of this group went on to shape the soundtrack to all of our lives for over 3 decades.

That day as a little girl, I fell in love with “Candy Girl” and New Edition. It wasn’t just a song. It became about so much more than music. They weren’t just a group - they were everyone of us. What’s your first NE memory?

Phenomenal work by @cashiesh. RUN and go check this out. Pictures don’t do it justice.

I had the great pleasure to not only meet but photograph @eltonmonroy while he painted his latest mural for @blkoutwalls in Detroit…on my studio building!. Watching him work throughout the time was something special—every color, every gesture filled with heart. He radiates kindness and creative energy, the kind that reminds you why art matters. Grateful to have crossed paths with such a genuine soul.
