British Columbia skate legend JOSH EVIN gets wild air and bodies the WHISTLER SKATEPARK circa 2002. Then Sparka picks up his board and shows Josh what he can do too. RIP JOSH EVIN. YOU AND YOUR SKATING WILL LIVE IN OUR HEARTS AND MINDS FOREVER. #skateboard #skateboarding #skateclipsdaily #whistler #britishcolumbia

A nice discovery for the 25 years of Hastings skatepark series: Josh Evin (RIP) doing his thing. Not a great photo, but it’s the only one I have of this monster. Has anybody else sent as much heat over the Hastings volcano? I haven’t seen it. Giant ollies, face-high kickflip melons, frontside bigspin melon... crikey.

If you didn’t get to see him skate in person, that’s the shits, but you can go to @blkrsn to see some clips. He was a special skateboarder.

During one of my first Hastings sessions, I did that newbie bonehead thing where my run ended and instead of getting out I starting pushing from the flatbottom like dumdum number one. Josh rolled in at top speed and almost landed on my head. I still remember hearing that rolling thunder sound and feeling the wind. The skatepark code of etiquette exists for a reason and I didn’t make that mistake again.

I shot this on my Yashica T5 and it’s from the same roll as the previous photo. I wasn’t doing skate photography yet, but always had that little camera on me so I caught a few bits. This was May 2002 a day or two before Slam City Jam - you can tell because of the @katch1 artwork on the 8’ wall. Remember when the entire west wall all the way up to the shallow end was a continuous mural of classic Natural Koncept psychedelia? That was the best.

Been on my mind a lot lately, reminiscent of the old days learning from Josh and his crew. Rlly unique skate style and genuine big brother type figure. One day we will meet again and shred it up in heaven. Gotta get the tat touched up too been over 10 yr.

Thanks to @stepandroid_ for the write up and @sbcskateboardmag giving Driftopia a 5 page spread in the new Mag & @spencerlegebokoff for taking all the pictures for it. Also a huge thanks to all the sponsors and everyone that came to the contest! Should we do it again in 2025?
