Mark Evans was an amazing surfer and better, a great guy. He was a disciple of Tom Wegener when Tom still lived stateside and later on shredded on Jon Wegener's boards.
From an EasyReader News feature:

Evans was thrown in “Coach” Tom Wegener’s car and driven up and down the coast, chasing swells and touring with Wegener’s film “Siesta and Olas.”

“Tom made me ride an early ‘60s Hansen board with a huge D fin and a pointy nose,” Evans recalled. “We went to Rincon on a perfect five foot day, were I was instructed to have a parallel stance and cross-step with no arm motion, refine my style, and not lose any power.”

One of the first of the younger generation of South Bay longboarders to be featured in Longboard Magazine—maybe the first in “Dropping In” (can’t recall, if Chris Del Moro might have been first)
Also dominated the NSSA and become a favorite subject of Jim Russi.
He loved his jam bands and knew How to throw down a great beat on his drum set. As well as had a passion for history and political debate— He worked as an inner city high school history teacher known as Mr. E
Addiction got the best of him—something he battled a majority of his life. It was a part of his personality—also for good. One particular story we’ve heard is how he got addicted during childhood to the rush of selling candy bars for his local little league. Door to door—Evans went out selling, bringing in $ for his organization (Which he would volunteer umpire later in life), He sold the most candy bars, not of just everybody, everybody combined. No one has touched his record since going on 30 something years.
In the mid aughts, he would jokingly obsess with “getting the last two packs” to make an 8 pack. We would point out, Mark, you have frosted tips, man. A snapshot of Mark, out on the town, as bronze as can be, advocating sobriety, was something—a real piece of work—a memory that immediately gives us a smile.
He came from an era when wrapping a roundhouse and rebounding off the foam had to have style…he hung ten with the best of them, and had no fear of the heavies and close out tubes. We love you Mark, and you’ll be missed. Condolences to the Evans family.

To everyone who made an appoint to visit and to everyone who prayed, thank you with all my heart 😉. I’m on the road to recovery, and though it’s a painful one, I will hopefully feel back to my old self soon. Thank you again friends and family.❤️🥰🙏🏻
