As the executive director for the Atlanta Photography Group (APG), I am keenly aware of how important it is to support our local photography arts organizations. They are precious assets for our city. The Atlanta Center for Photography (ACP) and APG have different mission statements, but we both support the Atlanta photography community (and beyond). ACP’s mission is important to the growth of a regionally important center for photography. I am proud to be a co-host for this year’s ACP’s auction gala after party at Bar Premio in the Fourth Hotel. Details and tickets can be found in the link in my bio.

We gathered a few friends for literally the best summer Rose to say a warm Hey!! to our friend Danny (who is a brilliant mind. If you missed his talk, I’m so sorry 😞)

Michel’s @michelboyd beautiful home was the backdrop for conversation and catching up with a room full of the exact kind of energy we thrive on — good art, good design, good vibes 😎

Special thanks to @officialBYREDO for gifting our guests with an extraordinary sampling experience from the new collection (and to @brittnicolehughes & @brefreemanxo for making it so seamless).

Of course @ibestwines was poured all around because it’s not a summer art soirée without the Best! Thank you @ms_ibest 💕

Thank you to everyone who joined us, raised a glass, and made the night so special. And there’s more where this comes from. ✨Convening Culture

Let’s Go Dream A Little.

@marabrockakil is one of my favorite people in this world.

She is literally all the things — smart, talented, creative, resilient, industrious, beautiful, fearless and indomitable.

When Mara asked me to moderate the first conversation kicking off the book tour for her debut novel The Revelation of Dionne Daphne and at @schomburgcenter no less, I gagged. Ofc it was a resounding: Yes!

If you know me, you know this:
1. I am a journalism and literary nerd.
2. I am television obsessed — sitcoms, dramas, dramedies, and old school talk shows.
3. I love fierce women.

The opportunity to be in conversation with the former journalist turned brilliant creator, writer, director and producer of iconic shows like Girlfriends, Living Single, Being Maryjane, Forever and Love Is on stage with a sold out crowd at the epicenter of Black culture in Harlem was more than a blessing.

“I believe in divine order all the time,” Mara once said.

Mara has conquered Hollywood and become a griot for Black women and culture. She has brought the gorgeous, nuanced and often times complicated stories of our community to life with journalistic integrity, radical authenticity, and unabashed vulnerability. Divine. Ordered. Anointed.

Her first novel The Revelations of Dionne Daphne is a masterpiece and does what Mara does best interrogates the interior lives of Black women and ask us to contemplate our own autonomy and humanity.

Thank you Mara for using your gifts to shine a light on our lives, stories, experiences, narratives, culture and humanity. We love you. ❤️
