Last season US shoppers planned to spend an average of $890 each on the winter holidays. In December that's a credit card bill. Across ten weeks it's about $89 a week. Write the list first, budget the non-gift third, and decide the money-home number in October instead of on a December phone call. What line item always surprises you? Comment DECEMBER.

Employer group life insurance is generally tied to your employment. If the job ends, coverage commonly ends or has to be converted, often in a short window at different pricing, and terms vary by plan. That doesn't make it bad. It's cheap and worth having. Take your election, then ask what would still be in place if the job ended. Do you know your answer? Comment PORTABLE.

Open enrollment opens November 1 for most people. Before you change anything, confirm three things about the life insurance election you already have: the multiple, the dollar amount, and who the beneficiary is. Beneficiary names go stale after a marriage, a divorce or a death and nobody sends a reminder. Ten minutes, free. Did you know your number before you looked?

A 1% excise tax on remittance transfers out of the US took effect January 1, 2026. As written it applies to transfers funded with cash, money orders, or cashier's checks. The sender owes it and the provider collects it. Treasury's proposed rules on exactly what counts aren't final yet, so ask your provider directly about your transfer. Which country do you send to?

Social Security announced a 3.6% cost of living adjustment for 2027, reaching about 76 million people. A COLA is a catch-up, not growth. On a $2,000 monthly benefit that's $72 more a month. Meanwhile the taxable wage base goes from $184,500 to $192,300. Treat the benefit as a floor. What age do you think you'll actually stop working?

I gave for years and saved nothing, and I thought that was faith. Then I read the inheritance verse properly. An inheritance is something you are still holding. Start with 1%: on $4,000 a month that is $40. Which have you been doing longer, giving or saving?

Sixty seven percent of adults either think income moves their credit score or aren't sure. It isn't on the report at all. I found that out as a grad student with a stipend and no credit file. Five things are in there. Which of the five have you never checked?

I had cash and no credit file, and I thought that made me responsible. An empty file is not a clean slate. Secured card, authorized user, one small charge paid in full, and leave it open, because time is the part you cannot rush. If you came here as an adult, what is the one money thing you wish someone had explained in year one?

Five questions. I am a licensed agent and I would rather you ask me all five than buy something you did not understand. Number five is how I get paid, and I will answer it. Which of these would you have been too polite to ask? Comment PROTECT for the list.

47% of adults say they could cover a $1,000 emergency. Almost a quarter have nothing saved. I prayed about that number for years before I did anything about it, and then I read the verse about the ant properly. She stored in the summer. $25 a week is $500 in 20 weeks. What number can you actually keep?

I waited years to open a retirement account because I wasn't sure I'd stay. Leaving doesn't close it. It stays in your name and can roll to an IRA. What changes is withholding: 30% is the IRS default for nonresidents, and a tax treaty can lower that. The US has no tax treaty with Nigeria, Ghana or Kenya. How long did you wait?
