These bikes are often overlooked by the chopper community because they don’t hold any inherent value. But I’d say the value they possess as a learning tool can easily outweigh the resale price.
These cheap Japanese bikes have helped progress my fabrication skills further than anything, just from how low-risk it is to experiment with them.
I set out to prove you don’t have to spend a lot of money to build something special. I’ve got right around $2,307.16 (give or take) into this thing total.
Huge shoutout to Chris Potter for the paint, Tyler Wheeler for the seat, and Curt Bennett for the name and engraving. Each of you donated to the cause and pushed me to really try on this one.
And I think I proved that even with a small budget, you can build something tasteful. Albeit, 12 feet long.

Coming to @the1moto: ‘79 Honda CBX1000 “Boa” from Dennis Nhan of @sooowetcustoms. Dennis is a full-time crane operator who thought switching to vintage bikes would slow him down…not quite.

“The vibe was inspired by Boa Hancock from One Piece — I wanted the bike to be curvy, smooth, and just straight-up eye-catching. Something that flows, feels fast standing still, and turns heads without even trying.”

The donor had been left outside in the brutal Canadian winters since 1984! Now sporting Öhlins front and rear suspension, Brembo brakes, and lightweight aluminum wheels from a 2005 Aprilia RSV1000RR Factory, with @bigbendesigns machine work and a swingarm polished and engraved by @sircarloq.

1147cc engine with Wiseco big bore kit and internal goodies from Tim’s CBX, Keihin FCR carbs, carbon fiber seat pan by @furthernorthfab, alcantara seat upholstery by @bluecollartextiles, @purpose_built_moto DIY kits for the front fender and license plate bracket, lots of goodies from @sanemotionmoto, TIG-welded exhaust with @hindleexhaust undertail silencers, leather-wrapped keychains from @isthatguyalbino, and big thanks to Dennis’s wife, Mary, and buddy @caferacerdaddy for all the help.
