A getaway so effortless it felt like home…except at home nobody brings me fresh fruit by the pool, cooks every meal to my liking, watches the kids, or gives me ocean views. 🇯🇲😂✨

@bluefieldsbay was built over 40 years ago along Jamaica’s breathtaking oceanfront bluffs, featuring stunning villas and suites thoughtfully designed with exceptional service and hospitality in mind. Each villa comes with a full staff - including private chef, nanny, and butler, but they are not just staff they are your new Jamaican family you want to come back and visit every holiday.

I’m excited about every single issue of Seattle magazine, but I have to say, this one feels extra special. Next level.

Maybe it’s because I dove back into long-form storytelling (something I LOVE, but don’t have as many opportunities to undertake anymore), or had the opportunity to tackle some deep travel stories, or, because it felt like everyone who contributed worked extra-hard to turn out their most excellent work.

I can’t really put my finger on it, but in my almost one-year tenure as EIC, this issue is the one I’m most proud of so far. Maybe I’m finding my stride and feeling more confident. Maybe I’m just exhilarated getting to tell more in-depth stories about people in this city doing amazing, culture-impacting things.

Regardless, this issue feels the most “me,” and I hope to continue shining a light on the people, places, and things that make living in Seattle and the greater Northwest such a magical experience.

Pick up your copy today to read about the forthcoming World Cup, dancer Lucien Postlewaite’s retirement from Pacific Northwest Ballet after nearly two decades (BONUS: Lucien and I sat down for Seattle mag’s podcast to talk about his experiences and next steps. Visit seattlemag.com to listen), the magic of travel, and what happens when you face a crossroads in your life, and choose the path of positivity. That’s what producer, writer, and filmmaker Vik Chopra did after a downward spiral landed him in the Washington State Penitentiary for just shy of five years. He took accountability, looked at the time in front of him, and found ways to improve himself: body, spirit, and mind. Now he runs one of the nation’s few prison-produced podcasts and leads the charge in reframing the way we think about the justice-impacted community.

Thank you to each person who was willing to be open and vulnerable, trusting us with your story in the pages of Seattle magazine.

A hotel with a huge heart.

We are delighted to share that Bluefields Bay Villas in Jamaica has officially reopened. Since Hurricane Melissa struck the island last October, the Bluefields Villas Foundation has raised over $600,000 USD to help rebuild the local community and is determined to keep going. This hotel is the epitome of community-led hospitality, so when you’re looking to book your next Caribbean stay, it may just win your heart.
