While their thick fur helps keep them above the water, their mothers keep them close, carrying them on their bellies as they rest. This month I've spent a lot of time in Hawaii doing more instructor courses, and have passed my Level 2 instructor for FII! Level 2 was already one of my favorite classes, and now I get to teach it to others!

This year was both long and really fast at the same time. Kelly and I moved to Florida, started working at Spear America in Fort Lauderdale, got a boat, taught a bunch of classes, came to Hawaii for more certifications, and helped others with becoming FII instructors!

I want to give a shout out to @deepfreediving for all of the coaching this year! In our sport it seems difficult, especially as an instructor, to ask for help, but it seems silly when you look at any other sport. They all have coaches, why should we be any different. I couldn't have asked for a better one. Dan's gone through a lot in this sport and knows how to go about getting you past what's holding you back. Through this coaching, even my mindset of not enjoying statics has changed, which I thought was impossible, that alone makes a huge difference for me. Thanks again for everything!

The biggest shout-out I can give is to @heartwheel !! She truly supports me in anything I do, and even without hesitation. She pushes me to be better even when I don't think it's possible. I can't even put into words how much she helps me out with anything and everything, from shop stuff to making sure I have everything I need to relax before a very hard month. I couldn't ask for someone better in my corner!

Congrats to @moistmaninis for also crushing the course! Chris is an instructor on Big island and I always thoroughly enjoy doing exams with him!

Shout-out to @thesaltyskipper for assisting in the instructor course and also taking time out of his day to help me complete the static so I could finish before I left Hawaii this week!

This time of year can feel a bit like a warm-up dive, an extended hang without much to do. Things go a little quiet. There’s a little aimless drifting while we wait for things to get loud again but there can be moments of perceptive calm that we carry up with us when it’s time to breathe again.

We’re really excited about what this next year has in store! There’s community to build, new limits to face, and a growing crew of adventurers who are already adding their own flare to our creative mix. We’re gearing up in the next couple weeks for another Florida expedition so stay tuned for that! Have a good one out there!🤙

Thank you to everyone that made the @freedivesafehawaii event on Kauai such a huge success. It felt good going to such a beautiful place and sharing my spearfishing knowledge to the local community. I usually travel to places to take fish and waves, but it was just as good going there with something to give instead of my own selfish reasons. Kauai you are beautiful and I hope to have the blessing of surfing and diving your sacred water’s some day. Thank you to all the amazing people who made this event happen. Also, thank you to my beautiful, badass girlfriend for all you do. I appreciate you so much! Magical weekend in God’s country.

When you wake up and choose violence!

This whale would stray very far from its mother just to chase us down. For nearly 45 minutes he was swimming to each of us in the water. Eventually another mom and baby whale swam to the area as well and the 2 babies decided they would have more fun playing with each other.
