Here’s a rare and highly sought-after piece of American roots music history from the golden age of resonator design. Another gem from our vault: a 1936 Dobro Squareneck Model 27 resonator with the coveted sunburst teardrop back. With serial number 8586, this beautiful example sits within the legendary serial number range (late 7000s thru early 9000s) recognized by collectors as the golden era for exceptionally resonant, high-quality pre-war “teardrop” sunburst Dobros. It literally doesn’t get any better than what you’re looking at here. Finding one of these pre-war 1930s resonators in excellent condition is exceptionally rare, as most have suffered heavy wear over nearly a century of being played. A who’s who of legendary players have made this Dobro the iconic instrument that it is, including “Uncle” Josh Graves, Pete “Bashful Brother Oswald” Kirby, Jerry Douglas, Mike Auldridge, and Tut Taylor. They all loved the thin birch-ply Model 27 just like this one for its slightly harder, more mid-focused tone that cuts clean through the acoustic mix of any loud banjo, fiddle, and mandolin without getting muddy. And this one does just that. Original tuners and cone were changed many years ago, but everything else is completely intact. Replacement cone likely sounds better than the very thin original, which was typically replaced frequently by the players listed above. Any way you look at it, they are legendary players who played a legendary Dobro, and this is one of them. It might just be the finest Dobro Model 27 Sunburst Teardrop Squareneck ever offered, or in existence today. Show us another!! Please call for more details, pics, FaceTime and pricing. Happy to oblige on all counts. Thanks for looking!! #bluesvintageguitars #bestguitarshopinnashville #dobro #dobromodel27 #resonator
