🦞✨ When in St. John’s, add Blue on Water to your must-try list!

I stopped in for lunch and ordered the lobster sandwich with a side caesar salad it was such a lovely meal. There’s something about getting to enjoy local seafood while you’re exploring Newfoundland that makes the whole experience feel extra special. The lobster sandwich was exactly what I was hoping for, and the Caesar was the perfect sidekick. A delicious little solo lunch date in downtown St. John’s!

Blue on Water puts a big focus on fresh, high-quality ingredients and working with local farmers and suppliers whenever possible. They even grow their own herbs, vegetables, and other ingredients, with more than 11,000 in their homegrown assortment. How cool is that? 🌱

They also celebrate Newfoundland’s food heritage, with local fish and ingredients, wild-harvested finds, and traditional favourites like cod tongues with scrunchions, kippers, molasses, berries, and more. It’s a restaurant that brings together local ingredients, thoughtful cooking, and flavours that feel connected to the place you’re visiting.

Whether you’re popping in for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or weekend brunch, Blue on Water is a delicious stop to add to your St. John’s itinerary and if you’re a seafood person like me, that lobster sandwich is calling your name! 🦞

Saving this one as a must-visit for anyone planning a trip to St. John’s and I’d happily go back for another lobster sandwich. 💙

We know it’s easier to go online or call a national supplier and order exactly what you need. Working with a local farm takes a little more patience and flexibility—waiting week to week to see what’s ready, adjusting menus and sharing in the uncertainty of Newfoundland weather.

Growing here keeps us guessing. Having restaurants willing to work with what our fields provide makes all the difference.

So, we wanted to say thank you—and have a little fun along the way!

Our first annual Golden Spud Award goes to Blue on Water, the restaurant that purchased the most vegetables, herbs, micros and flower from All Saints Farm in 2026. 🏆

A big thank-you to our runner-up, Portage (maybe a silver spud next year), and to Magnum & Steins, Rabble and Mallard Cottage for supporting our farm.

Every order counts. Behind each one is a chef choosing local, a kitchen making it work and a farmer grateful for the support. 💛

Still growing Albion parsnip, leek, beet, tomatoes, peas - so not done yet but we thought it timely with Thanksgiving weekend to say thanks now.

There’s something about finding a good drink while exploring Newfoundland that makes the stop feel like part of the trip. 🍺☕

Maybe it’s a cold craft beer after a day on the road, coffee before heading out to explore, or a cocktail that turns into a much longer evening than you planned. Across the province, there are plenty of local spots that make grabbing a drink part of the experience.

Here are a few we’d happily make a stop for:

If you could only pick one, are you going for coffee, craft beer, or cocktails? 👇

Throwback to this classic and comforting first meal on “The Rock” at @blueonwater during our trip to Newfoundland in 2024. Nothing better than crispy taters, fish cakes, fresh bread, a fried egg, and a side of mustard pickles (my fav). Sometimes it’s the simple things ☺️

10. Burger Battle Review: The Seoul Crusher (Blue on Water)

I tried The Seoul Crusher at Blue on Water, which features a blend of ground chuck and short rib with ginger, garlic, shiitake, and gochujang, topped with crispy pork belly, Gruyère, pickled cabbage, jalapeño, arugula, and sesame aioli on a black sesame bun. It’s definitely a bold and creative concept.

For me, the burger didn’t quite deliver on flavour. The meat was served medium rare, which isn’t my preference as I tend to enjoy my meat more well done. Because of that, it came across a bit bland, and the flavours didn’t feel as bold as I expected.

The wait time for the meal was also a bit longer than anticipated.

That said, the space itself is really nice and adds to the overall dining experience.

Overall rating: 6.5/10
