A Chuck Sperry launch was always going to sell out. That was never the question.

The question was who ended up holding the work. Will it be someone who frames it and hangs it on the wall? Or a bot that flips it by lunchtime at five times the price...

That is why Chuck never bent on this. His collectors are his career.

Chuck Sperry didn't become Chuck Sperry by fighting bots or refreshing a crashing checkout.

He became Chuck Sperry by focusing on the work. Every color on his prints hand-pulled one by one.

Launch day used to pull him away from all of that. Not anymore.

2.2 million hits in three minutes.

Then Chuck Sperry's website dissolved into random letters and numbers.

The technician who cleaned it up said it was the most spectacular meltdown he had ever seen.

Chuck is one of the most-collected poster artists working today. His work hangs in SFMoMA and the Smithsonian's Cooper Hewitt. He has spent 30 years getting his art into the right hands.

But on launch day, the bots were beating his collectors every single time.

So he had a choice. Keep losing the people who actually love the work, or find a better way.

Here is what happened, in his own words.

This was the most insane project and an even tighter timeline

Real time editing while on the move with our awesome partner Special Group & Uber

The ask? Get Charles Oakley to the game and document the reunion for Game 5 of the Finals

Such a special project to be apart of!
