last semester of highschool part 1: TMEA

leave it to an alto to sing a high C!!

being 1st chair was not on the roster for me, it was something i always thought was literally unconquerable, and i looked up to those who made 1st chair with big, proud eyes; not in a way that inspired me, but in a “good for them” way. but now that’s me.
it would be odd to speak about what ive accomplished this year without acknowledging that i didn’t make the all-state choir last year. i would like to tell you everything that i learned from that experience, but in a way, im still kind of recovering from it. however, as im writing this, im just now looking back at the growth i persisted upon not making it since then. i felt every synapse in my brain hating myself for it yet i kept going; maybe because it was routine or my deep passion for music, and maybe its better those two things don’t get mistaken for eachother. either way, not only did i make it, i got first chair, and not only that, i got a solo.

i thank my music educators, my friends, and our brilliant clinician Dr. Molina for making this an amazing experience, especially my parents. as much as they say they “don’t help me” during this process, they helped lift me up without knowing it. without them i wouldnt be where i need to be, which is doing music.

Not everyone knows the side of me, but singing has always been one of the deepest parts of who I am. After being in Cantare for these past 11 years, it’s so hard to believe that this was my last ever concert but I’m so grateful for every moment spent. Thank you to my directors, both past and present, for everything you’ve poured into this program and into me. Here’s to a closing chapter and new beginnings 🖤
